That's cool but thats the price just for the box? Wow... I already have a sub and a amp, I was really hoping to just somehow get it installed in a custom box or something for like less than $200.

That is completely unrealistic isn't it?

for a ZR, I don't think you can get anything that sounds better then that box.

I personally don't think $200 is too exspensive specially my sound system costs me $6,000.

For those with convertibles I highly recomend the glove box enclosure with
10" JL, this thing thums so loud I feel like some is massaging me.

So this one goes in the actual glove box or behind the driver seat?

I wish that was mine, my system is more simple than that but loud enough for me.

Thats cool, I would like something like that but not for the money it would cost to get it.

The misconception of open air subs is that they do not need an enclosure. They do not need a sealed or ported box but they do use the "enclosure" they are mounted in as a sort of sub box. For example if you install free air aka open air subs in a MB or Audi rear deck they sound great as those cars typically have well sealed trunks and seat sections so the full trunk compartment acts as an enclosure. Now if you folded down those seats or opened the trunk you would notice a change in sound as the sub would sound no different than holding it in your hands and playing it producing very little bass.

For that reason the Z sub spot wouldnt be so good for a free air sub as its not sealed from the passenger compartment at all. You could seal off tha sub area to the sheet metal its mount plate mounts to with a few layers of dynamat and get decent response from a free air sub but they are meant for larger areas (like using a trunks air space) Best bet is have someone build a small enclosure in the pass foot well for a single 10 or 2 8's or even fiberglass the stock spot and install a 10" sub there.

Why do they even sell open air subs then if they still need an enclosure? I have never bought one but am just wondering.

I know this is a WAY old post, but figured I'd give an update to this. It is possible to do the drop in with a 10 inch sub, but you will have to drill, cut plastic and wire your own sub to mount to the stock Bose location. I can get more photos tomorrow if needed. If you pack the enclosure with Poly styrene, you get very little vibration, and a lot of bass. (Depending on your setup you currently have.)

Thanks for reactivating. I’m looking to do something similar. Did you seal the enclosure around the sub? The stock one looks like it has holes in it... 🤨

Sort of, I put really thick foam tape in between the sub and the stock plate, nissan says the stock bose is 10", but the hole is right around maybe 10.25. Just enough to not even drill holes for new bolts. So far, it hasn't rattled loose or sound bad. Definitely worth the effort!

Hey, this is really nice! What enclosure did you use for the sub? Is it custom or is there a company that makes it?

I think this is just a free-air setup (meaning no enclosure).
