Default 5th bow not moving at all..

So my 5th bow went from getting weaker and weaker to completely not opening.

Im thinking about taking it to the dealership. any ideal on how much they will charge for a fix? im sure they will tell me some bs like I will need a new motor or something.

I believe the tsb for re lubeing the bow does not apply to me as the top does not even move at the 5th bow position. If the dealership is going to charge a crazy amount then ill have to research alternate means.

Thanks fellas!

I would think the brushes in the 5th bow motor are the likely culprit. Others may be able to chime in on this.

If it is the 5th bow motor, you're looking at something like a $1000 repair bill from the dealer to replace it.

Or, if you're wanting to save $990 you can just by some brushes($5 or so) and some electrical cleaner and clean up the motor and replace the brushes.

This is a good guide to how to go about it:

Mine is working fine, as are my window lift motors, but I bought 10 sets of brushes to have on hand if and when I start getting problems. The same brushes fit the window motors and the 5th bow motor.

These are the brushes I bought:

I believe some other people confirmed that these will fit. The ring terminals will have to be cut off.

Thank you for writing the tutorial. I hope to never have to use it. I drive with the top down almost all the time, and if it's raining I'll drive my truck. I cleaned out my garage enough to park inside, so now the top stays down almost all the time. That ought to make the motor last longer.

mestisoZ: Did you check out your motor?

Yeah I actually took out the motor and cleaned it up real good. It worked very strong for the weekend.. I closed it and went to work all week and this weekend it started struggling again. After holding the open button and lifting on the window section a bit I got it to open up. But it was struggling when the 5th bow section had to go back down.. Im waiting for my burshes to come in, they been on back order so hopefully that will work once I get them in.

Sounds like the same problems, I was having. End result, I bought the 5th bow, replacement (about $645), from the dealership. It was the upgrade replacement. Came with the motor, replacement cable and instructions. Rather than doing the work, myself. I took it to the repair shop, the dealership, contracts it's convertible top work with. They charged me $300. And 6 hours later. Works like brand new!!! Not one, worry or problem. Problem solved!

$900 as opposed to $5 if you repair it yourself.
