Default What happened with my Z yesterday?

My car is an '03 Enthusiast with 70,000 mi, and ran 100% perfectly for the week that I've had it.
It can't be the battery because the 3rd gague showed the battery had 14V, but here's what happened..

I was determined to get a manual 350Z even though I knew I would have to learn using the clutch before I could drive it. It took me a few days then I was comfortable driving on the roads with traffic.

My very first day driving back from work,(yesterday) the service engine light started flashing..... and the shifter started wobbling back & forth like crazy.I was in a turn lane in a very big intersection, and the car stalled (I assumed)....so I tried to start it back up - but it wouldn't even crank!!! Then I realized the hazard lights wouldn't even turn on! (they'll always turn on even if a car is off) what on earth would cause this??

Turning the key to the "on" position...the electricals wouldn't even turn on....I thought at first the security system locked me out somehow. After I got it into a parking lot and waited about 30 minutes the key worked in the ignition again, but its running extremely ROUGH - but it can't have been flooded because the problem didn't go away in 3 hours time...and I never stalled it during when I drove it either...

Towed it to the Nissan Dealership...awaiting Diagnostic I have a feeling 3 cylinders are misfiring.
I am very worried that it'll be something major like a head gasket. Yes it is under powertrain warrenty but the salesman didnt tell me until after I bought it that the dealership only pays 50% of the labor/parts....plus that dealership is in Indianna and I'm in Ohio!

Well I found a Recall that describes EXACTLY the problem for the 2003 350Z, but the dealership says my VIN# isn't one of the ones affected....so Nissan won't pay for it......so why is my vehicle having that problem if it's not affected??

I even called the 1-800 # for Nissan and said my vehicle is affected by the Recall, but they said the same thing, (my VIN# isn't affected) meanwhile at the dealership they've been working on it ALL MORNING and have probably 6 hours of labor + $100 diagnostic fees and say they have NO CLUE what the problem could be.

I basically had to borrow money from my parents to get the car, so I have no money to spend on repairs, I'd have to just not use it for 1 year until I have the money....I can't believe this, I bought it 7 days ago and now this! I saved 2 years for this, what can I do? I found many other people on the web with the same exact problem and no way to get it fixed because nobody knows whats wrong.

Maybe its your cars computer going out. Because i read a thread a while back where this guys Z just shut off on him one day and wouldn't start or do anything. It turned out being one of the chips in the computer had gone out so he had to replace the cars computer. Cost him like $1600 before labor. But just my 2c. Good luck hope im wrong on this one.

Ugh, that might be it then. Because everybody I talk to tries to say its just the battery, or the engine was flooded, but nothing like that will make the electronics disabled.

That might be more on the right track, but even so, that wouldn't explain the engine running rough would it?

Dealership called me, said the battery cables were loose and it was causing a short to all the electrical components in the vehicle (thats why not even the hazard lights would turn on) and unforunately it also caused a power surge to the onboard computer

The computer not working means the 02 sensors stopped, and so did 2 cylinders completely.

He said the computer is $1,600 with labor and with diagnostic. It'll be expensive, but my worst nightmare was if labor was so expensive I had to do it myself....and had to garage it for 6 months.

I guess the bright side is I'll have it back within a week.

Cross your fingers. Because the dealer may be looking for more business besides this problem

fight with them tell them you will not pay unless they nock off 50% off their labor for free and for their loose battery cables. that is a hazard you tell them they sold you a faulty car unsafe for the roads contact an attorney to just give them a call not full retainer.

I don't think the dealer performing the repair is the dealer where the car was purchased. I think he said he bought the car in Indiana and he is located in Ohio. Most used car warranties are only good at the dealership where the car was purchased.

When your check engine light flashes but doesn't stay on, your ECU is detecting random/multiple misfires. You must of have a spark plug wire break or a spark plug itself fault. This would cause your engine to shake, hence your shifter shaking as you stated. Try a tune up, it'll get you back on the road. If you still have warranty, don't try anything; just bring it in.
