Default Monster Wireless FM Transmitter for IPOD!

Hey Everyone,

My gf just got me an IPOD for my bday and I wanted to get the Monster FM transmitter. Has anyone bought this and tried it? How is the sound clarity and ease of use? I live in NY, so I'm hoping there are some available radio stations, not quite sure.

Thanks!

If you have a BOSE with casette you're better off with the tape deck adapter. FM modulators suck.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have the BOSE unit, or a cassette player. What's the next best/cheapest alternative?

What headunit do you have? I personally recommend using a headunit that has auxilary input. Check out the pictures in the link found in my profile for my iPod setup. I never tried an FM modulator because I always heard that they ended up sounding really bad. For a while I used the Belkin tape adapter for the iPod and plugged it into my 6cd changer/tape deck from Bose. But soon after I upgraded to a Sony headunit with aux-in and got myself some Monster cables (red/white RCA) to direct connect it.

Monster makes a cable that will fit into the back of your factory bose system, that has an aux rca outputs on the other end of cable. At this point you can hook up your ipod and have soperb sound quality.

i have the itrip by griffin technologies ($39), it works well in rural areas but its pretty useless in and near nyc. You need a clear station (static) and it helps if the adjacent stations are clear also. Assuming you get a good signal, you then have to find a place in the car to sit the ipod so that its close enough to the antenna, the cup holder works well for me. Once you do that its fun to hear your own music without having to burn cds. Overall it can be quite usefull, also fun for long roadtrips, if you can figure out what radio station someone is listening to in the car next to you, you can mess with them.

haha, yea I live in rockland...so there will (hopefully) be some decent static channel up there, but I work in the city...and the likelyhood of open channel is minimal. I'm probably just going to go to bestbuy this weekend and buy one of everything and see what works best and take it from there...atleast if they dont work...i can take them back...

Good luck with taking something back. Trying to return something to that store is like trying to prove the earth is made of JELLO (it's very difficult). LOL

They tried to not take something back that I had because it wasn't wrapped in plastic. It was packaged exactly as it was when I bought it but without the plastic. I will never buy anything from that store again. Circuit City all the way!!! No questions asked returns.

so i bought the monster connector from compusa and i have some mixed feelings. the connector worked well on 88.1 in rockland and westchester, but when i started heading towards the city...i had to raise the volume to hear clearly and i could hear some static noise in the background (very annoying). Also, you have to crank up the volume to even hear anything. btw, i checked with compusa cust svc before i left the store and made sure that i could return the product if it dint work with my car, even though i opened the plastic case. sooo, back to the store it goes this weekend...

still looking for a solution....

About the static/volume raising. Make sure the volume on your ipod is adjusted properly. I usually set the volume to about 70-75% when i use my iTrip. The idea is to turn up the volume on the ipod untill you get distortion, then back it down a little. That way you have the most powerful signal coming out of the transmitter, and you reduce the signal/noise ratio.
