You won't be able to access them unless you take off the plastic piece on the front/bottom and stick your finger under and behind it. Basically the buttons will be hidden when you install it.
I guess some custon button extension would work. But that would require some work.

you have to take the cover off... i have a 700tsv and the buttons are just below ... you cannot access them but you never need to once you have it setup the way you want... someone did a mod where they moved the buttons onto the front plate but I have never needed to use the buttons for the last 3 months...

DesiZ did u install everything yourself?? Was it hard?? If not how much did it cost?? Did u have to set up your screen the way you wanted it before u installed it?? Also u have a car pc installed right, how did u get the Z screen skin, was it a special program or what?? I would like to go that route and it seems that everybody is doing it, but to tell u the truth unless u have a pc laying around, it will cost some money to get one with all the programs u want...

Yes you remove the outer plastic before installing.
I think most people have the newer version Xenarc with remote control that can be used to provide the functions of those buttons without using the buttons directly. I have the same issue since the screen I bought on eBay did not come with the remote. I guess I'll either have to do some custom work to move the buttons or get a different screen.

I have the touch screen xenarc - no remote...i did it this way:
I then completely took the touchsceen apart and rewired and re-arranged the boards:
I put the buttons on the side and drilled holes which aligned with the buttons/led:
until i get some plastic buttons to fit he holes i can push, i just use a small pin to hit the buttons ... i was bored.

oops, I posted before I read! how embarassing.
Thats a nice solution if you can find some buttons. Id like to see the end result.
Now, how did you attach the screen, glass, boards etc to the nav compartment ?

yeah, read desiZ's thread , i did mine based on what i read from his thread and mp3car.com.
But in a nut shell i used double sided tape to attach the glass and screen to the plastic nav compartment..
I then used more double sided tape to attach the boards to each other the way i wanted them after extending some of the wiring. I tried to use zip ties to told the whole thing to the nav compartment but with the way i placed the boards on the back it kept making the screen crooked. I ended up tieing it with fabric to hold it in place after using the double sided tape, so far no problems.

As far as having a touchscreen, unless you needed the imput device - in this case for the pc - there wouldn't be much need for it.

It isn't hard to pop out the plastic bar on the bottom and access the buttons. Just don't put the screws in and you can just pop it out without tools. I can tell you however that I have only had to do this once in two years.

Hey i even like the Alpine 5.8...but is that screen too small...It looks tight in some pics i saw...I like the Alpine across the middle of the screen when a dvd/cd is not playing... With the Xenarc is their any thing showing when theirs not a dvd/cd playing or is it just a blue screen?? I would think that the Alpine would be more of a better quality too, just cause of the name brand or am I wrong....

Michla: I tried to do what you did but there was no way that the board with the buttons will reach to the side due to the length of the micro ribbon cable (unless I turn the screen upside down!). How the heck did you get it over there ?
I am considering removing the buttons from the board and wiring in extensions. I am a little concerned about trying it though!

I was looking at some pics and it looks like some of the xenarc screens come with dirrefent lengths on that flat ribbon wiring.....mine was luckly long enough...I only had to extend some of the normal wires.. the ribbon was about as far as it would strech but it worked...let me find a pic.
Hope this helps.
