Default Double-din H/U in 05 Nav. compartment

Has this been done? I am looking at getting an Eclipse AVN5435 and would like to mount it in the cubby hole where the nav would sit. I don't have the factory nav option and use that space as storage and would also take out the factory (non-bose) h/u and convert that space into a little cubby. I tried searching but didn't find anything. Is this even possible?

I was going to do that... but the shop had problems with the door... So the door would have to go. If I remember right there were some clearence issues as well that would need worked out.

But I have seen pictures with units up there.

I'm in the process of doing this same thing. You'll need to change out the 05 non-nav cubby to the 03 non-nav cubby. You can order the parts from Performance Nissan. The 03 non-nav cubby gives you the room to install the Eclipse without extensive cutting and modifications. I just received my parts. One important thing - the finish on the 03 cubby lid is a lighter shade of black than the 05 cubby. I'm getting the lid, gauge and shift panels covered in CF overlays with Suite E Grafx so no color difference problem.

Check out this thread for more help and part numbers.

Good luck!

The 03 non-nav cubby cost $67.54 (pluss shipping) at Performance Nissan.

I have a double din head unit but I cannot imagine there being enough room to do that. There is barely enought where the radio goes

Check out the thread above. Looks like some guys have tucked up to a 7" screen in that space. I decided to go with a 6.5" Kenwood screen in the cubby and a Kenwood DDX-8017 h/u nav system in the double din space. However, I did see shop install pics of it in the cubby space.
