Actually building my own is no problem, but wiring it up and making sure I am powering it properly is where I will run into issues. I don't have time/patience to figure all these small things out. If I were still in school or had time to spare, I would definitely attempt it on my own. As you say, however, the interior will look pretty much stock in my case since the actual PC will be mounted in the cubby, and the screen will go in the navi spot.

EDIT: It must also be powerful enough to run Streetdeck SMOOTHLY, and without creating a lot of heat. That's why I'm going with the Celeron M.

I'm probably going to go with the Streetdeck system since I want a "new" system.hahah

But what are the specs on your Carputer setup? (chip/MOBO, power supply, screen, RAM, HDD, etc.)

ive installed the carputer for my 2006 Z and used a nav cluster to replace my stock small cubby hole. One problem i came across was the motorized feature found on the nav cluster that my original did not have. Can i somehow connect the motor to a straight 12V or do I have to order up a male connecting peice to the female connection on the circuit board.
i'd appreciate any help

What monitor did you use and how did you install it in the cubby?

People who have 2003s can basically unscrew the backside of the cubby and install a 7" monitor.

People who have a 2004/2005 seem to buy the 2003 cubby since the 2004/5 one doesn't have a removeable piece. The problem with this is the nav piece doesn't match the rest of the dash.

Owners of the 2006 models have yet ANOTHER redesign. However, generally these folks end up buying the motorized nav cover. Why is that? How come 2004/5 owners don't buy a motorized nav cubby?

I thought the 06 just has a duck bill and no cover over the nav?

I got the non motorized because it was cheaper and no one had figured out (or at least posted) the wiring for the motor. I replaced the 03 door on the early cubby with my 04.5 door so now I have it working well and matching.

^^ funny thing, I asked that in another thread a while ago, but nobody answered that. I thought the same as you, but I guess they sell it still?

Here is the thread I am talking about: https://my350z.com/forum/exterior-and-interior/191509-doing-nav-cubby-install-please-tell-me-what-this-piece-is.html

If you go to page three I posted the same question (post #46):

Hahah..yeah, I guess me and you are the only ones who found this odd. After looking at the link you provided me, it seems like perhaps the earlier 2006 models had the motorized nav door, and then they got rid of it all together. I am basing it on this post:

After getting in touch with a number of parts dealers, I have deterined that the only way to get this harness is either from a wrecked late-model 05 or early 06 witht he motorized option... or to buy the whole main dash wiring at about $1000.

From what I've determined, the circuit can't support s simple 12v power supply. It frys the components.

I was never able to determine what wiring would have originally gone to it's stock harness, but I can tell you there were a number of leads going in to it and they weren't just redundant + and - inputs.

It DID however, perfectly match the stock 2006 interior.

I would suggest either going with an earlier model manual door and maybe paint or otherwise try to colormatch the exterior, or just get the open 2006 one.

I'll answer any questions I can, but ultimately I'm in the same boat as the rest of you.
So that means there are 2 styles of doors for 2006 with navigation! Lets see, we had 2 in 2003, 2 new ones in 2004/5, and 3 in 2006? Wow, someone can't make up their mind!

i have a 7" Xenarc touchscreen that will be attached tomorrow morning
The problem is more about how will this door be powered to close and open because the door came with a circuit board with a female connection. I doubt when i turn the computer off that it will close by itself, maybe when i turn it on itll open. I dont know ahhh lol

Sorry, I didn't even answer your original question! I started asking a bunch of questions of my own! haha

Anyways, there was a thread about this earlier. Let me see if I can dig it up...

Here it is: https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-video/199239-courtesy-s-06-motorized-nav-door-install-56k-warning.html

this ---> http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=68250-Z3306 <&nbsp> is actually the part i bought thru nissan directly. Yes, it has a motor and most likely if i put 12V to it, itll mostly likely fry the circuit board, thus defeating the purpose of having the nav cluster lol anybody have an idea on how to power this so the door opens when the computer turns on and closes when the computer shuts down with the car.

But neither one of these look like they fit in the dash properly.

i just got the shuttle x100. First step in a longggg list of items needed. Anybody want to chime in on screen choices. Also how do you all get that navy cubbie to look so clean. Also does anybody have any install photos or directions on how they run all the wiring and such.
