Default Sonic Electronix

Have any of you purchased products from Sonic electronix? I just received two sets of MB Quart PCE 216's (6.5" components) and the made in germany stickers that seal the box were broken. All the equipment looks fine and has the mb quart hologram on the woofers. I'm just really nervous that they're refurbs or something other than brand new. I know that no websites are authorized to carry quarts...

has any1 ordered from sonic electronix and/or heard anything about their legitimacy?

I've ordered a few things from Sonic and it's worked out fine so far. I can't vouch for the authenticity of the components but the stuff I've gotten seems to be new stuff.

Before last week I would have said nothing but bad things about them. I had a very similar experience, except I had parts broken inside the box and it looked like they had already been opened. I sent them back at my own expense after being instructed to do so by their cust support (who is very hard to get ahold of).

Well it took 1 year for them to do anything about it. And about 100 e-mail messages and calls from me. However, just last week (1 year) I got a response to an e-mail and found out that they had been unable to get the parts fixed and have now credited me the full amount as long as I use it for another purchase on their website. Oh well it's better than nothing. I really think they were expecting me to just give up and forget about the $250 over time. I think my bugging them finally caused them to realize I wasn't going away.

I have a similar problem also going on with Indio electronics. However, they are worse. They have stopped replying to my e-mails and do not answer their support line or return calls. very frustrating.

I think its very possible that the box had been opened, but not used. The screws and clamps used to secure speaker wires to the xovers are all in the exact same position as if they were strait off an assembly line. I called them and they said they would call me back, which clearly is not going to happen. I guess this is something that should be expected considering I bought em for 200 a pair, which is a steal for Premiums. I've heard of ppl selling counterfeit quarts, but I guess I'll know when I hook them up. I compared them to my old Reference comps, and they look authentic.

I doubt they are counterfeit. Regardless of their suckiness at customer support, they (sonic) sell a lot on ebay and have a pretty decent feedback score. They would have been shutdown long ago if they were just moving fake parts.

But, I wouldn't doubt that this set might have been something that was opened or returned at an authorized MBQ dealer. Getting these cheap deals we are likely getting grey-market stuff that has been sitting on the shelf somewhere else, has had an issue, or.... and Sonic gets a 'lot' at a reduced price to offload to people looking for deals.

Anyways, I bought a set of PCE216s last year, through a company on ebay that offered the Square-deal warranty. The warranty cost about $30 if I remember right, but supposedly they will replace the speakers if there are any problems in an expedited manner. I ended up NOT USING THESE SPEAKERS. The speakers came in perfect condition with package unoppened. If you can get your money back and want mine, with the transferable warranty, PM me.

cool, i actually have 2 sets of PCE 216s (front and back). the plastic on 1 of my crossovers is a little dirty, which is really odd. it pisses me off because I would have been willing to pay 50 more bux for a more legit set, I just figured if I was ordering online I might as well get them for the cheapest price.

Coolness, they are good speakers. The reason I ended up not using them was the tweeter, to me it is a little harsh and I like the Morel set with the silk tweeters. I'm going to end up putting my PCEs on Ebay.

regarding MBQ, I've been very impressed with their subs. I'm running a MBQ reference 12" 2ohm. You may want to look into them as they are a good match to the components. Also, they have an "Add-a-woofer" system that uses the rear 6.5's with an additional crossover...that I am told adds a lot to the mid bass.

cool. I've been using MBQ since high school, and my brother that's 9 yr's older has done the same, so I couldn't really see myself using something other than MBQ. The same goes for amps (PPI), subs (JL) and head units (alpine). Although I wouldn't buy any new ppi amps since they got bought out by dei...i still have my old pcx amps from hs. I'm guessing my setup will be pretty loud cuz the quarts are gonna be powered by a pcx-480 (80x4 @ 4) but luckily you can asjust the tweeter on the xover. I'll prolly put them at -2db or something, at least the rear ones. For the subs, I kept it simple and got the stealthbox. the new ones come with w3v3's, as opposed to v2s. I never heard morels.

Best advice I could render here is before you purchase on eBay, email the seller and see how long it takes them to respond. Base your buying decision on their performance before the sale. Dont realize they suck after they have your money.

(I too had issues with Indio Audio, which they corrected, but it was a long two weeks before I received an amplifier back from them that I had returned)

i talked to a customer service guy on the phone and he was like i don't see how the seal being broken would make any difference. what an *******.

the equipment is fine, it just makes me curious why the seal was open. maybe the resell returned equipment. or maybe, since they aren't an authorized dealer, they do that for some sory of legal reason. who knows.

They do it to take of the serial numbers. Since they are not authorized they do not want the product being traced back to were they got it. It is most likely real equipment.

i bought my 500/1 and 10w6v2 from them. It came ok BUT their shipping packaging sucks! Actually they didnt even package the sub, they just used the mfg box as its packaging, luckily the item wasnt damaged, but i'm sure it coulda been. Also the screws were missing when my sub arrived. I guess its a hit or miss with them.

I'll be done installing the quarts from them by the end of this week...then we'll see if sonic electronix is legit. I installed the Alpine bluetooth kit and alpine video bypass I got from them, and so far its all working well.
