I wanted to find out if anyone out there has found out how to disable the feature that doesn't allow most of the Nav features to be used while driving. A friend of mine said that with most of the nav systems he has seen, this feature can usually be disabled by finding the cable that leads from the Nav to the engine compartment, and disabling it. I haven't looked into it yet, but I wanted to see if there is a known solution for this.

And to jump ahead of the safety-freaks out there who will give me static about tampering with the nav and causing unsafe driving conditions and all that jazz, when I'm driving the Z, about 90 percent of the time I have a co-pilot with me and it's a pain in the a$$ to stop every time she wants to make a change on the system.

This is an easy fix, and should be all over the boards.

All you have to do is place a switch inline with the vehicle speed sensor wire. However, this will mess up all your record keeping.

It would probably be easier and better to just replace the 'co pilot' with a less controlling model.

 

Me as well, wish it was voice activated as in the Pioneer AVIC-N1, such a PITA too pull over to plug something in especially when you have a passenger!

 

With my alpine nav system I grounded the wire that is supposed to be attached to the parking brake. This fools the nav system by thinking the brake is always on, thus the use of all features while driving.

I thought that was just for the DVD movies to play while driving?

 

On my DVD player there are no wires for this, just the basic ones. The parking brake wire is on the Nav wire harness.

I'm not sure if you guys have the factory nav or aftermarket. If it's aftermarket, you should be able to find the wire in the instruction booklet and be able to ground the wire yourself. If you have the factory nav, i have the service manual and can try to find if there is a wire that hooks into the parking brake.

Mine is connected to the parking brake wire of my iva-d310 witch is connected to a switch to ground. Works great for my nav and dvd

KPtechnologies just rereleased the Nav OK bypass, the new version has a user adjustable delay. Once this module is installed its possible (with extra parts) to use the 'OK' button to allow for Navi input while driving. You basically use the 'OK' wire that is installed during the Nav 'OK' bypass module installation to trigger a time delay relay which will activate a relay that will break the VSS wire going to the Navi unit.

Of course, I don't recomend breaking the VSS wire for several reasons.

1. Unsafe
2. Inaccurate maitenance records
3. Inaccurate MPG readings
4. Inaccurate movement while VSS is detached

 

You know what's funny is that mine allows me to make changes while driving. I know that when I first got the car it would not but now for some reason it will, I am not sure what I did to allow this.
