Default Nother speaker question

Hey guys, I listen to music all the time like most but i dont want to spend tons of money on audio equip, i just want to upgrade slightly. I just read a ton of posts, but still arent sure what is possible.

Can i just buy some 2 way speakers and replace the stock speakers and be ok? I will be keeping the stock bose HU, because i like the stock look. I dont want to add an amp or replace anything else. I will be adding 2 10's to the rear later on, but for now i would just like to know if i can just replace the stock speakers with some aftermarket 2 ways. I'm confident that most aftermarket speakers are better quality and will most likely sound better than the stock bose speakers.

Friend and I both agreed i needed more treble, then i took off the speaker grills and later decided the treble was fine lol. I'm going to dremmel the grills this week.

I'm keeping the rear speakers just because i like the idea of having them even though i know theyre low, but what brand would you consider and do you have recommendations on their frequency responses? I'm not looking to buy crossovers and such.

I had a crazy loud stereo in last car, non amped speakers and a 12 pumping out 850rms in a bandpass box and thought it was fine, and surprised im ok with the bose, just miss my bass. I'd rather not spend 100 on a pair of speakers to be honest. I buy most of my stuff at etronics who tends to sell their stuff very cheap so that just sounds like a lot to me.

Yep bolded my main questions for easier answering Thanks.

^^ The OEM speakers in the Z are cheap with horrible sound and beg for replacement. They are only there because Nissan had to provide something. The front speakers are terrible, and the rears are worse.

Just about any speaker you buy will be a big improvement. I would spend $'s on the fronts, and not worry about the rears (save $'s by ignoring them). You don't need the rears in such a small space; just turn them (fade them) OFF.

You can certainly put a pair of decent coaxials in the front and have much better sound than you have now with the OEM's. Your budget sounds pretty tight, so you will need to shop around.

^^ If you have the Bose setup in your car, there are special requirements when replacing speakers. A search will provide some information. Here is a recent thread about this:

"The front speakers are terrible, and the rears are worse."

Yeah but the front mid-base is worse than the rear mid-base ... sort of like comparing different pieces of *^%) and deciding which tastes worse.

The speakers are the pits, the amplifiers just as bad - the head end is only poor.

Yea i know you cant or shouldnt put 4ohm speakers in since the bose are 2, i read that whole thread. I dont understand why it would matter what wattage speakers you put in. Ive put 55rms speakers in place of stock which probably only get like 5 watts if that from stock amp, i dont see why it would matter with bose and no one specifies what wattage you would need. Like i said i read a lot of posts but so many conflicting opinions.

Good point. I suspect that some people may think the fronts as better than the rears simply because the fronts are components. As you point out, that is not true.

I feel using the front and rears or just the front stage, is your own personal taste. Some like it,,some dont. I personally like it. I have my ($100 coax.)rears powered off the headunit,,faded towards the front, everything else amplified. JMO

Back from the dead!!!!....... Ok i decided to amp my fronts and get components. I have read through threads but am confused again. I want to add JL TR650-CSi to the front and get rid of the **** bose speakers. Im keeping the stock headunit. Now the replacements are 4 ohms, and the stockers are 2. Does it matter though since im going to amp the replacements? I would think the speakers being 4 ohms matters to my aftermarket amp, rather than the headunit but im assuming the headunit had some play in this lol.

I was thinking about picking up a 4 channel amp and running it at 4 ohms, about 45 watts to each speaker, since they take about 50rms. Any suggestions or input? Thanks guys.

PS: whats a good website that sells audio equip for cheap? Ive only used etronics before but they dont carry jl. I may just use ebay.

EDIT: ughhh so maybe ill go with the VR's..... again input needed lol.

Just use ebay, bro. You can find most if not all brands on there for dealer cost. It doesn't get much better than that.

I think what you may be able to to if you want to keep the bose amp and rear speaks is buy front components & an amplifier. Bridge the speaker wire from the amp to each crossover (the crossover then going to the woofer & tweeter). Then you can go to pretty much any stereo shop and buy this little black box with 2 RCA ins on one side and 4 different colored wires on the other. You should be able to just pull your stock HU out and cut the front speaker wires from the harness and then connect the 4 wires on the black box (Left +/- and Right +/-) to the speaker wires so that they go to the HU and then plug the RCAs from your amplifier to the other end of the black box. I could be totally wrong, but in theory that seems like it would work fine for what you are wanting to do.

what a pain in the assssssss lol, i think i may end up buying a headunit afterall even though im gonna lose that nice stock look. Guy at the shop told me it will save me a lot of frustration and money. Are there double dins that hold 6 cds? I havent seen any, and cant figure out why they wouldnt. Guess im going to look into a descent looking one. Itd be nice to be able to plug my phone into it and play songs off my mp3 player on my phone at least. Ughhh more money to come up with.

I think i figured out why Headunits dont have 6 cd changers built in, i asssume since they have a bigger amp on them, since they claim 45 - 50 watts per channel...... anyway do they actually put out that much, i mean if they did then why would you need an aftermarket amp huh. How much does the bose speakers get realisticly in watts compared to an aftermarket headunit realisticly?

Aftermarket headunits display 45-50 watts of power. In essence,,you will get about 18 to 20 RMS of power. Which, if you are running amplifiers and using rear speakers,,,,18-20RMS of headunit power is perfect to power the rears. AMP everything else....
