wow.. these speakers are terrible!!!.. I have pioneer d1 navi system.. I want to upgrade my sound system to at least decent so i can listen to music while i go to work and school. what do you guys recommand? I'm not going to spend more then 200 or 300..
I'm really surprised at how bad the speakers in the Z are. They are terrible even with an aftermarket HU. My Evo ended up having pretty good speakers after I changed to an Alpine HU as did my STi but the Z still sucks.
I guess I'll have to buy some new rear speakers at least and go from there. I'm not looking for a whole system as I do not want all the extra weight that comes with it.

I believe that the Z component front speakers' OEM supplier is either Bose or Clarion (depending upon the OEM CES that comes with your car). Either speaker (Bose or Clarion) is a "junk" component speaker that "begs for" replacement. Nissan had to give you something, and they chose to go cheap; expecting the buyer who wants better quality to replace the system. It's foolish (and a waste of $$'s) to opt for the Bose "upgrade" since it provides very poor sound quality. Actually, the Bose "upgrade" interferes with replacement since it has some special requirements making replacement more difficult.
Bose and Clarion make great products (I replaced my OEM H/U with a Clarion), but the OEM Bose and Clarion components delivered in the Z are the worst examples of the products these companies provide.
The first thing you do after taking delivery of your Z is replacing the H/U and the front component speakers. If you decide to leave the rear coaxials in place, you should turn the H/U fader all the way off to silence the cheap OEM rears.

I replaced my OEM track model speakers with entry level MB Quarts back in '04. Gave them plenty of clean, pure power from a US Acoustics amp and they transformed what I hear in my Z. Some of the best money I've ever spent! For more details, here's my writeup:
