Default Hardwired radar detector yesterday

Easiest job ive done to my car by far, piece of cake took me like 20mins all in all

only took some phone coord wire (passport 8500) and a coat hanger

no wires shown, will put pics up if anyone would like to see, but i definately suggest doing it, makes the inside so much cleaner with no wires, as always

Hey... some pics would be great! I'm going to install a garmin in my cubbyhole and an valentine one in the next week or so...... are there any problems in splicing both into the 12v cigarette lighter on the passenger side??

I'm not sure about what the Garmin requires, but it's easy enough to hardwire a radar detector without splicing any wires. I'm sure the garmin could be done in a similar fashion.

Go to auto-zone and buy an add-a-circuit (the mini one is for the 350Z). I think it's about 8 bucks. Anyway, remove a 10A fuse from your fuse box (i used the side mirror one b/c it turns on/off with car), replace with add-a-circuit and plug the fuse you replaced into the add-a-circuit, then add the accessory fuse into the remaining empty slot in the add-a-circuit, crimp wire around accessory wire, ground the ground wire... and you're good to go.

Kind of a quick and unclear installation but I could give you a more in depth one if you're interested in this route... I preferred it because it required no splicing of wires.

Also the detector I hardwired was the V1.

I did it a little more ghetto then that, i know a lot about phone lines and data feeds etc... so all i did was take the green/yellow wire in a phone line (would of been red and black but i cut and used wrong side of the wire haha) and wrapped one fuse prong for cigerette A lighter fuse, and then grounded it on a bolt under driver side

lemme go grab some pictures and ill post when i get back

Inside view of radar

Then its tucked in headliner and ran down drivers side A pillar, down to fuse box
heres it running from drivers side to fuse box

Here is the bolt that the ground is under

And here is the finished product from the outside

Ill probably go back and do black wire but I liked how the cord matched the headliner in a way, so im still deciding... need any other pics just let me know, i can pop a-pillar off and show headliner tuck if need be i just grabbed these quick cause im in all my pajamas haha its my day off

sorry about quality ull see im using my cellphone, and i still haven't really cleaned up the wire coming from the headliner, it is running through the 2 plastic pieces that the mirror wires run through, i just didnt zip tie the wire to anything once it came out, im stilling deciding if i wanna keep that color wire, once i decide then it will be cleaned up so you cant see any wires so maybe people wont see the radar detector as easily
