Installing an XBOX in the Z. Has anyone tried?
Has anyone tried throwing in an XBOX ( 1 or 360 ) into their Z?
It could prove to be a massive entertainment system for a bargain. You would have gaming ( obviously ) and if you mod'd it and put a bigger HD in there....you can make an entire media center! (search XBMC in google ... this idea)
It would essentially be a carputer and gaming system all in one!

You can do this…
The Xbox 360 needs 200 watts of power. To power that you should probably use an inverter capable of at least 500 watts (doubling is wise). Rats… because once you go above 150 watts, you cannot safely tap into a DC power line in the car. For the inverter you need for your Xbox 360, you probably need to run a line directly from the car’s battery. That means running a dedicated line, going through the firewall, power management to prevent draining the battery, etc.
Well shoot… this is getting complicated and expensive. But... you can do it.

Go to a car show and sit there for a few hours, you'll change your tune, you'll be like damnit I wish I had my xbox right now, lol
I thought it was stupid also then at one car show they pinned me in inside the building (cars were all around my tC, I had my scion back then) well anyway, I had just put the PS2 Slim in my car cause I wanted DVD through my AVIC D1, and thankfully I did, that car show sucked, lol...all of my friends just sat in my car and we played games, even one of the judges chilled for a while and played some GTA, lol

Why? Well my mod'd XboX has 300gb of space. Its not being used at the moment. Imagine with that space, you can store about 100 movies, or tons of games, music, etc. If that could be connected without too much hassle, then well....why not?
If I installed a gaming system in the Z, I would have to live in the car. It doesn't make sense, even for the passenger. That's like saying riding in the Z is boring.

Simply ridiculous, I tell you.
Not arguing with you guys… But it does depend upon how you use the car (and I guess you could say lifestyle, although that sounds trite).
When I’m in the car, I’m driving and have little time to fiddle with computers, gaming boxes, etc. If I’m navigating with my GPS, I set it before I start driving, and rarely touch it after that. I usually listen to satellite radio, MP3, or CD’s I burn. I wouldn’t choose to sit in the car while my gf or wife is shopping (can’t afford to waste that much time). I usually have my laptop with me, so that is the computer I would use when filling “down time.” I suppose a digital entertainment system might see some use on an extended drive with a passenger, but only if that passenger was so inclined.
But with this said, that’s me and my style… others fill their time in other ways. We’re different, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Yep, I completely agree, since every time I am driving my G, I am driving at 10/10ths. I don't have time to be distracted by music, or need a GPS to tell me where to go; I'm always racing at 100% in my TT G.
Actually, on a serious note, the biggest problem with putting an XBOX in a car is that you have to use an inverter. Essentially, you are taking the car's DC power, converting it to AC with the inverter, and then the XBOX power supply is converting it back to DC. Some pretty serious ineffeciencies there. Also, inverters are somewhat of a fire hazard, and can easily introduce electrical noise into the cars sound system.
A better route is to go with a CarPC that uses a DC-DC power supply. Of course, you don't get the games of an XBOX with it, but you do get more versatility. All depends on exactly what you are looking for.
A good resource for CarPC information that I recommend is www.mp3car.com
Good luck!

. I bought a dc to dc power supply for it and hardwired it to my headunit then ran the a/v cables from the lcd i put in the cubby into the gloves box. Cheapest setup and its basically just like having a Carputer minus the touch screen. But cost me about 300 for the whole set up

There is a significant difference in the power draw between the Xbox 1 and Xbox 360.
The Xbox 1 draws something like 75 watts while the Xbox 360’s specification is 200 watts. That’s a significant difference. You can safely plug an inexpensive inverter into your Z’s power outlet to run the Xbox 1, but that won’t work with an Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 draws a lot more power (in fact it draws the amount of power needed to operate an intermediately-priced home theater sound system, not including the flat panel screen). To run the Xbox 360 you need a good inverter (capable of delivering at least 500 watts of power) directly connected to the battery with power management (to prevent draining the car’s battery), and isolated wiring to protect your car’s electrical system and prevent noise in your car’s CES.
