Default Anyone keep their BOSE head unit but add amp?

I want to keep the OEM look, but hate the way the BOSE sounds. Has anyone upgraded their speakers and the BOSE amp to something more powerful, is it even possible?

I've done it, but have a G. Surprised a few people when I tell them all I've done is add an Eclipse sub and amp.

It’s tricky and not easily predictable. The Bose system Nissan provides in the Z is proprietary and is not very adaptable to blending with aftermarket components. The best thing to do is remove all the cheap Bose components replacing these with a quality CES. If that isn’t practical, I would “live” with what you have.

I did try doing this (adding an Eclipse amp), but the effort was hardly worth it.

what kind of amp did you buy? Are you powering just the fronts or all the speakers?

Default Bose w/ Sirius

I did it & followed Zboater's setup below:

https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-video/80720-sirius-pnp2-ipod-install-on-z-roadster.html

Also, did the Bose upgrade from Frankmusic:

Your HU should be SAT ready. Just use the PacNiss to get CD quality sound from Sirius.

The box, amp, and 10" sub are all Eclipse. The amp only powers the sub while the factory Bose amp still powers the doors, rear sides, and rear deck. Where in SD are you?

I'm in Carlsbad.

I have a 2003 so it isn't wired for sat radio. I already have sirius installed through FM transmitter (sounds bad).

Can you recommend a shop or did you do it yourself?

I did it myself since I used to install car electronics. It'll take a couple of hours to run cable, tap into the Bose wires, and tidy everything up. Again, I have a G and am assuming the Z uses the same Bose components.

jlimquest thanks for those links, I am going to do what FrankMusic did, glad to hear you can keep the stock HU and still get decent sound.
