So the deal is I am looking for new speakers for the Z. I have had MB Quart most all my life.
So I was wanting some opinions from other members. Below are what I am looking at. I am really don't want a harsh sounding Tweeter. So I am liking the JL C5-650. I has a Silk Soft Dome tweeter.
So can I here some input on these listed below.
Thanks,
C

If so, I wonder if the Focal speaker you are considering will fit.

Focal’s website give these specs for the speakers (Focal 165):
165 V2 - Depth from wall: 68mm (2.7”)
165 V Slim - Depth from wall : 56mm (2.2”)
I was unable to fit the Focal 165 V2 into the stock door position (it was too deep at 2.7”). I was able to easily fit the Focal 165 V Slim into this position. I’m not sure, but I think the maximum depth in the Z’s door for using the stock speaker location is approximately 2.5”.

I would say they are "Tinney" ...it is the metalic dome tweeters causing it.

Well right now I debating on putting the rears in with-out the tweeters. I currently owns two sets of MB Quart Premium PCE 216. There about 3 years old.
I will be powering then with a JL 500/5. So there only running at 25 watts per channel. I am just looking for a slight rear fill.
Now the Fronts I am having a hard time with. There are lots of good products out there. The thing that sucks is where I live there is just no place the sales Hi end car audio. So I am unable to listen to any of these brands.
As for Harsh sounding. To me it's a Tinney or to bright. Now this could also be due to a mounting location(s).
So I feel a silk dome would work better fro me. Now since I am in the middle of the install I have yet to play with mounting locations.
I have seen lots of mounting locations for tweeters here on My350. It's great that people share this information and photos. It's all been of a great help.
So all your feedback is great.
Thanks,
c

i still say its not hte speaker you choose, but where you put it.
also, dont just look at depths when you think about stock location, there are speakres with gerater depths tha can fit in the stock location better than speakers with less depths. beufcaes its not the distance behind the speaker hole that matters, its how BIG the magnet and basket of the speaker is, too big, even a shallow speaker will have an issue with hitting the window that juts down.

I have looked at all your installs. Must say Sweet.
I am not concerned with the depth. I just don't want the tweeter to be the focal point. I want to try to get the imaging the best I can.

wicked CAs makes those door pods and they are a good price. Imaging is about ten times better than stock if you can swing them. Placement really does make a world of difference.

Ask Nazar to hook you up with pricing for the pods and JL ZR650. I haven't found any authorized dealer who comes close and his pricing is usually awesome. I liked the JL ZR, but went with the Polk SR6500 for a smoother tweeter.

The ring could be just from your car, or whats in it.
Since it seems you are looking for quality over quantity of sound, tuning, in your head unit or otherwise can also make a world of difference. Where your speaker ranges cross ( if they do ) can have the wrong sounds coming out of the right speakers.
