Dude Quit Being A Smart A$$, He was asking how to hard wire it to his rear view mirror. And The Information You Posted Is Wrong Information. I Thought This Site Is Supposed To Help People, Not Bash Them. And He Also Stated That He Already Tried Using Search. So Have You Ever Tried Reading? But z33boi I Think This Is More Of What Your Looking For

Its easier to use the escort smart cord which has a fuse in line and also has the mute button and lights. Its cheap enough too.
Just run it around the top of the windshield and down the A pillar into the fuse box.

I apologize to z33boi. I was reading three threads at once on two boards about this same subject, and misread the post.

However, If That Is Being A Smart ***, Heh. Sensitive People, Epecially To Register And Make That A First Post.

If I Hadn't Been Trying To Help Him, I Wouldn't Have Posted A Link At All. Why Are All The First Letters Caps?

As for the smart cord, they are fine, but I don't see any advantage in the mute button. It will just have to stick out somewhere and look bulky, and it isn't like I can't reach up to the detector. If that is good for you, though, I'm sure they are great. My solution cost me about $1 instead of $10 plus wait time

BTW, the curled cord that came with mine didn't have a fuse at all, or I would have put one on my hard wire. Take apart your plug and look and see if yours does. Somebody else said theirs was fused (but they hadn't taken it apart). Maybe there are two designs.

The curled cord may not be fused (it just uses depends on the "cigar lighter" fuse) and there is nothing wrong with your approach - pretty nice actually since the wires are short etc.
I just found it harder to do and also like the smart cord. I dunno maybe I'm just too lazy to reach up to mute! I even use the mute on the curled cord.
I suppose the smart cord is fused because people may tap a direct power line in their install.

Probably a good point about the lighter fuse. I thought of that at the time, and am actually using the lighter fuse as my connection point, but my method of connecting it is in parallel to the fuse. I could probably use an inline fuse for safety on my $300 detector, and I've actually meant to pick one up in case I get around to time to wire it in, but just keep forgetting. It isn't like the fuse line is expensive, either. Can't really be too safe, but it probably isn't really that risky without it, either.

*shrug*

I had a local stereo shop hardwire my passport 8500. It took 20 minutes and they charged me $20.00. They wired it to the ignition.
I'm glad I had it done by somebody with experiece after reading wadd3456 thread about his car catching fire

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php
s=&threadid=33820&highlight=wadd

Read down the thread and he mentions that he thinks his hardwired radar detector started it.

Good luck with your install

I saw that, and am not the least bit concerned about my setup. For one, it doesn't run through the center of the dash where his problem started.

Second, are you implying only a stereo shop can properly install something? That is just not true. I've installed much more difficult stuff than radar detectors with a phone line, including full alarm systems, etc. I can connect a positive to positive and ground to ground, I think.

In fact, I trust my install better than a stranger at some store.

Wasn't implying anything, just sharing info. I'm sure I could have installed mine also, but I thought it was worth the 20 dollars to let someone else do it.
Besides MannishBoy, I wan't replying to your reply, I was replying to the original post in which the person wanted instructions on how to hardwire, and thought he may rather let someone that already knows how do it for $20.00.
