Question Changed out Std to Bose, Now Probs!

I bought the Bose 6 disc and replaced my stock stereo but the sound is worse, it doesn't get loud and doesn't sound as sharp as the stock I just yanked out. Do I need an amp or something else to install with it over the stock system?? There are 2 extra jacks on the back of both the stock and bose stereo that had no wires to go there. Please help so I don't feel so bad blowing $300. Please give me more feedback. Has anyone removed the bose and what is hooked up to it? Is there an extra amp or something to run this thing or is mine just junk?

You definitely need the external amp to run the Bose hu. For $300 I'd so have bought an aftermarket HU.

the empty jacks are for the Nissan trunk cd changer I believe.

I wanted the convienance of 6 disc in dash and Bose stereo quality without changing the dash look. Would any car stereo sales center be able to handle the amp fix or should I get a nissan part??

You can't use the Bose radio without the Bose amps. They are in all vehicles with the Bose head unit. Unfortunately, the factory wiring for the Bose amps are not in a Z that originally came with the Bose factory radio.

So, you can't just plug in a Bose radio into a Z that had the standard factory radio. You can't add the Bose amps without the factory harness, which is NOT available from the dealer. If you insist on using the Bose head unit, you will need to buy aftermarket amps, and a differential adapter that allows the Bose head unit to work with aftermarket amps.

In my humble opinion, this is a complete waste of time, as the Bose unit will not have the sound quality of an aftermarket head unit upgrade. I know that you want the 6 disc in dash changer, but like I said, this conversion will be costly, and not worth the time and effort of just going to a good aftermarket head unit...

jeffa is probably correct on all counts there... you need that amp thats in the trunk at very least, not sure where you can go from there. also Id imagine the bose has bose speakers...(the head unit isnt actually bose I dont think). so that could cause the speakers you do have to be overpowered, and thus muddy.

Default Return The Bose

Take the Bose back and get a refund. Go buy an indash 6 disk cd changer from an aftermarket supplier. There are a few out there that you will like, just have to do some searching. Can't believe anyone would put in a Bose system as a choice. If you haven't read about the problems with the Bose unit on this site I am surprised. Not to many of us with the Bose unit are happy with the sound quaility. Anyway, I don't want to trash Bose, They have some outstanding units in the market. I just think they missed the mark with the set up on the 350Z.

Default Bose problem

You are all correct that the 6 CD player will not replace the standard CD. I know, I tried.

The wiring harness is incorrect for any non bose Z and cost $1300.00 plus 30 hrs to rewire the entire car. I know because I bought a Bose System for $100.00(6CD, speakers, amp,t he works) on ebay. It won't work. I called Nissan Corp myself and confirmed with the Audio Tech, when my dealer told me this.

I did manage to sell mine to these guys to get my money out of it. I don't know what they might offer, but sorry to say this, the CD player makes an awful ugly kitchen table center piece or ashtray.

I know what you're going thru, cause I have been there. Give these guys a call and see what you work out.

Finally went with an Alpine 7995, 4 Concept 6.5 speakers, a 4 and 2 chanel Blaupunk amps, 10in kicker and Kenwood Music Keg and FM Controller.

(Just so there is no confusion, I have no ties to this company, and have no stake in this. Just thought I would pass along my solution in the hopes that someone might learn from my mistake.)

Good Luck to you, and hope this thing works out for you.

Yea, you are the luckiest of the bunch of us...you didn't have the bose to start. You could have swapped individual components instead of having to gut the system and replace the whole thing at the same time.

Junk that bose and put a nice alpine or pioneer in there. and then start adding the speakers and sub and amp later. And if you go with an MP3 deck, you don't need the 6 dics because you can load a boatload of tunes on one disc!!

Good luck.

Steve, I see you haven't made many posts on this forum before. Do yourself a favor, read through here before doing anything to the car. It's likely it's been done or at least discussed.

The Bose sucks. Get rid of it, put something else in.

Sorry that you learned the hard way.

Wow...another item I was thinking about buying on ebay and this forum saved my butt! Nice responses guys - nothing like first hand experience and reviews to help you steer clear of a bad upgrade.

Sold mine for $90 more than I paid but I put the phrase "do your homework on compatibility with your car before bidding". Several people emailed me and I gave them the honest scoop of needing the other bose stuff to run it. The winner bought for $385 and was doing the other bose upgrades. The second place guy said he would have bought for $360 and I saw him bid on the next one available on Ebay. Sell em!!!!!!!!!!!!
