well with the 03-05 you can just unplug the two navi connector from the stock hu and navi should work fine, thats if you know what to rewire.
i took my hu out and dint replace it with another hu. instead i have a mac mini set up.
the way i get sound going out was to connect the amp turn on, ant turn on to the red wire which is ignition. nav works fine except for the voice (turn right,, turn left).

yup, they're separate. I have my factory navi + a kenwood ddx512 in mine and works fine. The voice for directions just doesn't work. Heard there's a way to make it work by hooking up a separate speaker to it.

appreciate the help guys..i also read somewhere that in order to keep the voice on the navi u need to get a separate speaker..another question..i have an aftermarket amp posted up in the compartment behind the passenger seat..as of now it turns on whenever the hu does and i kno u can get a switch so u can turn it on whenever you want so its not constantly on, my question is where to put this switch...now, right next to the 2 seatheating switches and the VDC switch theres this fake button (doesnt do anything) is it possible to take it out and put it there? anyone ever put anything there?
yeah people done that before. i think you can get the fake switch cover on gotplugs.com in case your mess up drilling or dremeling your stock one.
i think if you can find a way to make it look stock next to the seat warmers switches then go for it. but if you think it will turn out sloppy then maybe go for a more inconspicuos spot.

because i live in NY but go to school out in PA..and i go bak and forth all the time..but after that 2 and a half hour drive u can fry and egg on it, thats how hot it gets...one time it did the self turn off cuz it got too hott...and u kno since its in the glovebox behind the passenger seat theres no ventalation
Hmm...weird. I would look at a different solution than using a turn-off switch as a band-aid for this problem. Have you thought about using a fan or two? Maybe get subs that will raise the impedence of your amp so it won't go into thermal protection. Maybe turn the subs down while you are on your long commute? At lower levels there is no reason why your amp should go into protect.
What amp and subs are you running?

HI guys,
I have the same problem: I want to substitute the OEM radio with another one but I want to use the original navi and I'd like to have the connection of audio to the new radio and the mute everytime the navi talk...
is it possible to do it ?
Does any photos of the cables from navi and oem radio exist in the forum ?
Thanks a lot.

It is possible, but do a search. There is a thread on it somewhere.
Generally speaking, if you get a double din HU, they will have navi too. For my car, I have 2 navi's. I just use the factory one for convenience so my aftermarket HU can stay in music screen. But if I do want voice guidance, I'll just use the aftermarket HU.
