Question Front speaker replacement fitment issue -_-

Ok so I decided to rip out the stock blose sound system from my 03 z. I installed a sub and 2 amps. 1 for speakers and 1 for the sub. I ran all new wires to the rear and all was well until I went to change the stock front speakers. The stock blose speaker is like 2 inches in depth. I was unaware of the short clearance due to the window track. So my question is, do they sell spacers for the front door so that an average aftermarket 6.5 inch speaker will fit in the doors?

It’s very difficult to fit a decent component speaker in the Z’s stock front door mount.

I replaced the front door speakers using the stock mount, and it was not easy. I tried installing Focal 165 V2 speakers, depth from wall: 68mm (2.7"), and they just would not fit. I was able to install (just barely) the Focal 165 V Slim speaker, depth from wall: 56mm (2.2").

I don’t know if you can get off-the-shelf spacers. I made my own custom spacers.

I can tell you that the stock speaker mount in the front door is terrible. The door’s speaker grille blocks the sound from a good speaker, and no matter how carefully you apply sound deadening inside the door, the panel will rattle significantly with just moderate bass.

And, if you are mounting component speakers, the stock sail panel mount for your tweeters is very bad.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm just going to custom mount the speakers in the rear. So I will have 4 6.5 speakers in the rear. I don't know how it is going to sound though. I've had 10 cars and this is the first car that I've ever had this issue with. Live and learn I suppose lol.

Try Zenclosures.com. I bought some spacers for my 370 from them.

They do sell spacers for the fronts i could have bought them for $10 a pair but instead since i dont have bose i was able to break the whole speaker since its just, plastic filled down the edges and mounted my new ones on the plastic and used that as a spacer.

I had bought mb quart components for the fronts at first but didnt like the bass so i moved them to the back and installed kicker components in the front instead and i am happy with the way it turned out.

By the way i didnt find it necessary to use an amp for the f/r since i was going to use a 12 in sub instead of a 10.

most audio shops should be able to fab a pair for them if u can get them the cut out diameter for the new speaker and give them a stock bose one so they can trace the outline. i had a jigsaw and mdf handy so i just made my own. just make sure to seal them since water can sometimes get inside the door and the mdf will just fall apart if it gets wet.

Scosche makes a plastic spacer that works well, which you can get at Crutchfield. I like the Zenclosure spacer better though, since it's MDF and just feels more solid. I spray painted mine black to give the MDF a little better protection behind the door panels.

Heyy man I just did a set of component speakers up front in my Z, I am an mecp installer for bestbuy. your going to need a set of 1" spacers for the front doors unless you can cut out and modify the stock speaker bracket. I tried this and the material split in half. if you know someone who works at bestbuy they cost like 2 bucks, normally like 15
