Need some budget system advice.
I am getting ready to put a small system in my 06 350Z. I don't really want anything special, I haven't competed in car audio for about 8 years and I have no plans on getting back into it. However since I have been out so long I am out of the loop as far as new technology goes. I just want something that sounds good when I go for a drive.
Anyway, I know what most of it is going to be but my biggest question is on door speakers. I would like to go with components but I don't know what speakers will fit in the door and in the tweeter location. I would like to stay below $300 on the component set and keep everything in stock locations.
As for the rest of the system I plan on a Kenwood DDX-514 head unit, I want to use this so I can take the sirius receiver out of my Tacoma when I take the Z on trips. I am going with a JL Audio J2 500.1 sub amp and a JL Audio Stealthbox with two 10's for some bass.

I have the same Kenwood HU. Its a nice unit and handles my IPOD perfectly. I installed FOCAL's front and rear, components in the door and full range in the rear. Some on this site will tell you the rears are not needed, but to each its own. I aslo do not have a sub and don't miss a sub. The FOCALS provide plenty of bass for my tastes.
Just like dating women everyone has their own choice in music ... and speakers.
I most highly recommend grabbing a CD (not MP3) of your music and heading out and do some side-by-side listening tests. The speaker solely flavors the sound of the music unlike your choice in antenna, head-end, or amplifier and is really worth the effort to match your taste in music to your ear. Find a car audio place that has a decent selection and the proper staff who is going to let you play and listen for awhile.
I like thin Asian women with a pretty face and sweet smiles ... and progressive rock music from the '70's and 80's. A woman that might not appeal to you might be my dream date ... and Pink Floyd through my speakers might not send shivers down your spine like it does to me.
When I bought my last home speakers I made arrangements with the stores manager to audition several sets across a few weeks of time coming in after hours to get some privacy. I'd listen to a couple pairs at a time sort of in a "sweet-16" like competition with speaker A vs. B and C vs. D and then the winners side-by-side. It took a bit of effort but I was really happen and appositely certain that I had chosen well.
The thrill of the hunt is sometimes as fun or important as the meal afterward.

Thanks, guess it is kind of how I always loved the "tinny" sound of MB Quarts while other's couldn't stand them.
Oh and for what it's worth, I am one of the people that hate rear fill. I have never been to a concert where I could hear the band members singing behind me.

I placed my order, I am going to try out some Alpine Type R's to get started with. Hopefully it sounds alright.
So, here is what I went with.....
JL Audio J2 360.2 amp for the doors
JL Audio J2 500.1 amp for the subs
JL Audio Stealthbox with two 10" W3v3 subs
Alpine SPR-17S door speakers
Rockford Fosgate RFK4D dual amp wiring kit
Hopefully this will get me started, it has to be much better than what is in there now!

I like your component selections. I think you made some great choices. It should sound very good.
As far as the spacers are concerned, you might be able to cannibalize the junk OEM front speakers and use the mount as spacers for your new speakers.
