It's totally different in the sense that with Volks and Works you are getting a product whose quality cannot be matched or exceeded by another wheel manufacturer whose wheels costs less. The same obviously cannot be said for JL Audio products. In addition, a big factor in what wheel someone purchases is the wheel's overall apprearance. Since very very few people actually care what their audio products look like the same comparison cannot be made between the two.

I have personally owned JL audio products in my audio infancy but I most likely would never purchase one of their products again. Actually the only way I would ever purchase a JL product with my own hard earned money is if they were to come out with a new DSP that was head and shoulders above and reasonable in price compared to the other options currently available.

im not going to start a quality debate about works and volks...... but im sure there are many wheels out there that can stand the beating just as much as works and volks....... i do agree with you in that the comparison is not a good one.... but its just to get an idea... im sure you know exactly what i mean kwame...

we can only wait and see what JL comes out with next... but im sure whatever they do comeout with... it will compete or possibly be better than alot of products in the market right now..... now they actually have something to look to beat or compare too.... not like when the W7 line came out 10 years ago

hey kwame hows the excessive amperage alt holding up for you??? youve had it for some time now....

Now I was told when I was buying subs there were many options that were just as good but I decided (when JL had the factory authorized sale of 25% off the W7 line) to buy a pair of 8w7's. Well I also was looking for a clean amp to run them and had already been looking at Fosgate, JL HD, and I believe orion (at the local shop). After looking around the JL HD was one of the cleanest (signal) amps out on the market.

Is JL just a name? yes, but do they make quality products? yes. Do other people make products that match the specs of JL with great quality? yes, for cheaper? probably.

I'm happy with them, I have friends with 10" and 12" (fosgate P2, P3), Boston, and alpine. Many other friends stop by and tell me how clean it sounds. Did I spend too much? Well I had gift certificates and got things on sale, so it wasn't as pricey for me (out of my own pocket).

So far so good on the alternator but it has honestly gotten very little use.

Kwame, what type of setup you running in your car? I'm curious to see what you have, you seem like a very knowledgable person in the audio world.

edit: search pwns me, found your thread you made. Great setup! Would love to hear it, it's such a great thing to see people who know what they are doing and shoot for an overall great sound quality stereo. Unlike the fad with throwing as many 12's and 15's into a wall and throwing as much power to it. Never understood that craze. +1 sir
