Question on Coaxial front speakers and stock tweets
I have a 2004 non-Bose model that I bought about 3 weeks ago. The stock system was terrible and I knew right away that I would be upgrading. I ordered:
-Pioneer Premier FH-P800BT HU
-Alpine 10" Type R Sub
-Alpine MRP M500 mono amp
-Zenclosure box (under strut)
I mostly wanted to get a little bass and a better HU with an iPod input and Bluetooth. I was planning to leave the speakers stock until I can afford to upgrade. Well, after installing a new head unit today I discovered that my left-front door speaker doesn't work. It's getting power, and the tweeter works, so I know it's the speaker and not the wiring. I even hooked a battery up to the voice coil and got no movement. It's dead.
Soooo. . . now I'm broke after buying all the other stuff but my new 3.1 Surround Sound isn't going to cut it. I'm not an audiophile of any sort and I've never had anything but cheap Sony Xplode crap and the like before and I've been perfectly happy with it. So I'm thinking about just buying some $100 Pioneer Coaxial 6.5" speakers and hook up to the HU's amp and calling it a system (for now).
My question is, is there any kind of crossover wired into the stock components, or does the tweeter get the same signal as the woofer in the door? If I buy the coaxials, do I leave the stock tweeters plugged in? Or just leave them unplugged and hook up the coaxials from the wiring that goes to the stock 6.5" speakers? I'm a car audio newbie and don't know anything about how component systems work.
Or even better yet. Is there a set of cheap-ish components that I'd be okay to run off of the HU's amp and stock wiring?
Thanks.

I just ordered some Alpine Type-S coaxials and some Zenclosure MDF spacers. I think they'll be fine for me and I'll upgrade to some nice components when I have the money to amp them also.
I'm still a little confused about the stock wiring since there are wires going to the woofer and the tweeter and I'm not sure how to make sure I get the right ones wired to the coaxials. Anyone?

I installed some infinity coaxials two ways. They sound light years better then oem.
Disconnect neg terminal
Remove door panel and speaker.
Snip the plastic speaker connector off. The one going to the oem 6.5 coaxials
and exposes the bare wires. Wire up your new coxials you might need to crimp some connectors onto the newly exposed speaker cables.
The oem door tweets should still work.
Enjoy!!!

If I understand this correctly...I believe he is asking the following question - as I am also wondering the same thing...(as the following is a subset of another one of my posts)...
...
How do I identify the wires which are currently coming out of the stock head unit and going into the front components (before the signal is filtered for the tweets and woofer -- if the signal is filtered at all)?
