Default Speaker Installation Issues / Head Unit Installation Tools/Kits??

so i finally got around to replacing my front speakers...which turned out to be a pain because i ended up having to build my own spacers...then ran into door finisher fitment issues...then ran into grill fitment issues...but in the end the new speakers are in...(still a little modding left for the grill)...

but I did notice something about the stock wiring...while the stock wiring is 18 gauge from the radio to the doors...from the doors to the stock speakers they are 20 gauge (even if that...maybe 22 gauge)...so I will definitely be replacing the wiring before I install the amplifier / subwoofer (sometime within the next two weeks...

QUESTION - what kits / tools / harnesses / etc do I need to install a new head unit...currently I am thinking about the PIONEER AVH-P4100DVD...but that may change within the next couple days...

thanks...

I'm using PAC ROEM-NIS2, which helps you connect pretty much any aftermarket radio to the factory speaker system, and Metra dash kit. That's about it.

Hey I think you posted on 350zmotoring too, What trim level is the Z. If you have the Bose System in the Z you will need a different harness than what is posted in the link and no antenna adapter is needed in the Z. Some of the older Nissans had what is known as a "diversity" antenna which is a two prong plug which would need an adapter. If you don't have bose then the kit and harness listed above will work just fine, If you have bose, the kit will work but you will need the Metra harness 70-7551, which has RCA's on it. You would need to make sure your new headunit has at Least 2 sets of RCA Preouts to plug the new Metra harness RCA's into. PM me if you need any more help. I do car audio/video for work.

thanks for the info...really good stuff...i do not have the bose system...so i should be okay with the kit and harness above...but just for a little clarification on the antenna adapter...if i understood correctly...regardless of bose or non-bose...i do not need the adapter for the Z...thanks once again...

Thats correct you will not need an antenna adapter, I have seen in several Maximas including newer ones require it.

And as far as the speaker grills just an Opinion but Id leave them off.. just put the speaker spacers in first with self tapping screws if possible then mount the speaker with short screws to the plastic spacer, cutting up the door panel on the Z to make the grill show would be a bad idea.. that is if thats what you meant in the OP.

I think I am going to explore options of getting the spacer's depth shaved down just a little bit...so i can get the stock speaker grills back into place...i definitely agree...no extreme mods to the door panel...

Do things the right way and get the Zenclosure spacers - they are perfect and the have custom cut out sizes to fit your needs.
