He guys I know this has come up and I've searched on here and different alarm sites. But I keep getting different colors so can someone pls tell me what color is the wire for the dome light? And where they grabbed it? For an 05 350

Right now the most consistent I see is at the bcm it's pink (-) if that's right ( I will test but wanted to be sure it's right)

I'm looking to add some LEDs under the dash to act as the dome lights do as well as LEDs in the door handle that will light up when the car is unlocked.

If the wire is infect pink (-) then I would hook the led to constint (+) and the pink (-) so that when do light is triggered the (-) becomes (-) and completes the ciruit correct?

Pretty sure ppl have grabbed a (+) wire from the Apillar though

 

How bout you just pull the dome light out takes 2 seconds the only too you need is a Key it pops right out

 

I'd suggest just grabbing the door trigger which should be a (-) in the kick panel @ the BCM. The Z has independent door triggers. The PINK wire is going to be for the right side (passenger) door, and the WHITE will be for the left (drivers) door if I recall correctly. Both wires are in the same plug at the BCM.

You can either tap into 1 wire or both. If you tap into both, I'd suggest you diode isolate them. This way, no matter which door you open your new lights will come but all the OEM stuff will work correctly. If you tap into just 1 door, then your lights will only come on when you open that door.

EDIT: To test this, tap the wire with a T-tap and hook your DMM up and check for resistance between your wire and a good ground. Do this with the doors open and then repeat with both doors closed. You should have continuity with the doors open, and nothing with the doors closed.

Thanks for the replys. I would tap the door trigger if it where just for the footwell LEDs ( may not even put those no need to make the Z look like a Honda from fnf lol)

It's more for the door handle LEDs and if I tap the unlock won't it only flash when the unlock button is pushed? I want it to stay on and dim like the inside of the car there is a full DIY on this but the wire colors are different

 

If you read the post I referenced, and you use that wiring method, the LED's will stay on and fade off just as the dome lights do. Another feature will be that if you have footwell lighting, it can be manually switched on/off by pushing on the dome light lenses.

 

Yea that would be cool to work the footwell lights off the dome lights.

If I tie the door handle LEDs into that they will turn on also though by using the dome light not sure if I like that.. Gonna have to play around I guess.

Where are you getting the power from? I'm guessing there are 4 wires shown in the pic 1 neg and 1 positive for each side?

 

You are correct about 1+ and 1- wire from each side of the domelight housing. If you play around with a meter, you can easily find the terminals which will only link the door handle LEDs to the dome lights and fading function without the manual on/off. BTW, wiring from the domelight, at least to me, was much easier than screwing around near the fuse box or pillar switches. I pulled the wires across the top of the headliner to the right side of the roof, and the only trim pieces I had to remove were the A-pillar cover and that piece immediately behind it. It's then a simple matter to run the wires down to the floor area. But, in your case, with door handle LEDs, you're going to have to run wires through that rubber conduit near the door hinge - way too much aggravation for me.

Also, floor lighting is really very convenient, especially the first time your wife/girlfriend drops something from her purse. I've been driving since 1974, and the Z was the first car I've ever had without floor lighting. The orange lighting I used is subtle and truly looks OEM, unlike those installs with CCFLs, blue LEDs, etc. Nissan actually sells a JDM kit which mounts a small orange bulb under the front edge of each seat, but it's something like $200+.

 

Good looks amigos, yea prob easier just grabbing power from the dome light instead of messing w random wires bc every diagram different ughh!

That's just a part of working on cars. NO diagram should be considered 100% accurate because the manufacturers are always changing stuff. Any wiring information you find should be considered a "guide" and ALL wiring should be verified with a volt meter before making any connections. There are all kinds of threads on this site and other automotive sites that start out "I followed the DIY exactly but now my ________ doesn't work". And usually it's because they tapped the wrong wire because they didn't verify! Seriously, it would take less time to actually test the wire in question then it would to make a post asking about it!

 

Long story short I was doing the same project had the door handle and even the little red reflector all hooked uped the. When I was about to finish it to hook up the dome I was being lazy and I didn't unplug the battery and I sorta got to close with one of the wire saw some spark and dome light hasn't worked but works manually pressed if I go through those pink or white would it still function

I have done a lot of reading do the unplug the battery after lowering window and leaving door open to reset bcm didn't work

I take some input I like to make use of the led work I did for like half the day to be some use lol but they do light work manually when I use the dome on Off
