Default Aftermarket navigation, upper/forward cubby

For navigation I have a Power Acoustik PT-700MHR LCD 7” Monitor in the upper/forward cubby space and Garmin GVN52 Navigation Box (mounted in the rear cubby space behind the driver’s seat). This setup has worked perfectly for 10 years.

I do have a problem now. Garmin no longer supports the Garmin GVN52 Navigation Box; I can no longer get map updates (which is something I need).

I’m disappointed, but I need to move on and find a new solution. I don’t like the Double Din slot for navigation and prefer the upper forward cubby slot for my LCD screen.

Is there anyone here who has the same problem and found a solution?

Thanks for your comments and advice,

--Spike

EDIT/UPDATE (02/09/2014): I just received email support from Garmin. The downloadable map update for the Garmin GVN 52 and GVN 53 is no longer available; however, you can purchase the latest map set for the device on a SD card.

Default Samsung tablet and Co-Pilot

Here's what I did....The new Samsung 7" tablet, Co-pilot software from the Playstore. There are other ones out there that are better but for what I use it for, its fine. Update the tablet once a week on the driveway using WiFi. Works great.

Here's what I did - not nearly as cool as fun4four's setup, which almost looks like a factory install.

Too bad. I do have same setup but with gvn53. I remember you helped me a lot when I was doing it. Hopefully they do not stop supporting that soon

Spike,

I currently have a magellan roadmate installed, and I have been pleased with it thus far. It has a good looking, crisp display and very responsive touchscreen. Plus, it looks 100% stock. Sorry for the bad pictures, the car is currently in storage so its hard to get good lighting along with the fact that I'm using an iphone.

Sorry if the pictures aren't working, fairly new to this forum and still trying to figure out how to upload them correctly. Here is an imgur link in the meantime : http://imgur.com/a/VfY0N

I’m disappointed as well. The Garmin GVN 52 and GVN 53 are great units that enjoyed good sales initially, but lost out because they did not support touch-screen function. The Kenwood version did support touch screen, but it was proprietary and Kenwood stopped producing its remote touch screen monitor.
