Default Amplifier cable

The box store amplifier cable (4 gauge) appears to be composed of very VERY fine strands of copper wire.

I have read that when "finer" wires are used in cable construction, that it actually reduces the cables ability to perform. I have also discovered that these fine cables are more prone to corrosion and failure at their junction points, clamped, soldered, or crimped. (in use since 2004)

I am about to upgrade my system, and I am inclined to use "vehicle grade" battery/starter/ground wire. (because the wire strands are much thicker)

Before I spend my money . . . Comments?

I read that power travels around the strands, and that is why more is better for audio applications. Not sure how true or accurate that is

I've used thhn wire before. I don't think it matters as long as it's rated for the power
