2006 350Z Tourster CD Player Issue
I just got my 2006 350Z, only 70k on the odometer, not bad for a 2006, and I love it to death, the thing is a beast, and I think the previous owner, got it from a lot did a few things under the hood, pretty sure its an after market cold air intake, unless Z's come with those by default, not sure.
Anywho, it has one small issue, which wasn't a deal breaker but its bugging me because I've used Alpine, Sony, Pioneer, and various other car cd players over the years and never one issue, but the Z has a weird six disc player and it seems like its built into the unit itself, the Cadillac I had had a similar system but the changer was in the trunk, but whatever.
So I tested everything at the lot except I didn't have a cd, nor did they, so I just put on an FM station and its a great factory system, but I've always like Bose. But when I tried to put a cd in the slot, it wouldn't suck it in, and it said "press eject", and it also seems to think there are 6 cd's already loaded but when I push eject, nada, and when I try to play any of the 6 cd's, nada. I tried holding down on the eject button for like 40 seconds, nothing. So I can't tell if the "vacuum" is just busted, but you'd think I'd get a read error or hear something from the motor but pure silence, in fact at times the stereo will just turn off when I try to pick one of the 6 cd's it thinks it has loaded. So my question, is there some way to reset teh stereo without unplugging the battery? I'm still learning a lot of the other things the car has that I'm not used to, like heated seats, and then the temp control in the center, the led is always on even when I push it down, not sure if that's normal or not. So I have 2, maybe 3 small issues, I think the tire sensor needs to be replaced but its been raining so I haven't had a chance to check the tire pressure by hand to see if its low, the dealer said they checked the day before but I don't think they did. Anywho, back to the cd part of the stereo, if anyone knows any tricks I can try I'd appreciate it. This car is an upgrade from a 1997 Hyundai Tibron, and back in 97 there weren't heated seats all the other gadgets. I heard its about 1k to swap out the stereo, would prefer not to go that route, its not the naviation system version, just cd player, fm and am and six disc. Usually there's a pin hole one can poke to get out a stuck cd, not seeing that. I also really don't think there's any discs loaded, think its misreading. But I used a very bright flashlet and looked into the slot, couldn't see anything, could be wrong, maybe it is a jammed cd.
Did I mention I'm new? So like, Hi.
Got the car on Halloween... felt fitting since well, I'm a horror junkie. Point is, if this thread is in the wrong area, I apologize. This forum ihas tons of sub forums so I got a bit lost.

Welcome- moved your thread to a more appropriate forum. While I don't own a Touring model Z33, I suspect your Bose headunit is malfunctioning. The car is 16 years old and some parts are bound to go belly up. I'd suggest going to a vendor like Crutchfield and start sourcing a better double-DIN headunit with bluetooth and other modern conveniences. Yes, it'll cost a bit, but it'll be worth it in the long run.
Sounds like they used the same headunit for the 06 till the 09, I'd prefer to avoid bluetooth and all that, its why I didn't get the 2012 I think, I don't like all of that stuff, But I'll check Crutchfield to see if I can find something without the extra stuff. I found this for the 2006 350, Crutchfield says it fits, but the question is, do the buttons on the steering wheel work with it? I never had all that stuff on my 97, just had a remote and just controlled the head unit by hand, but I do like having the features on the steering wheel, allows me to keep my eyes on the road.

And I guess I don't have an option of not having blue tooth, they all have it. I'm so sick of all the blue tooth nonsense, but I figure it can be turned off.

As for using the steering wheel controls, you'll need to ask Crutchfield about how to wire it in. I have a similar Kenwood headunit in my Z and elected not to try to wire up the steering wheel controls. One thing I would recommend is a custom wiring harness from them- for $29 this harness made installation very direct and easy. Let Crutchfield walk you through the selection, purchase and installation of the pieces you'll need.
Having a bluetooth hands-free phone connection can be helpful at times. But if you don't like it, just don't use it!

I'm just glad my options are less than I thought, I was thinking I'd have to drop a thousand on a OEM headunit, but Crutch is saying most of these stereos so far are compatible with the steering wheel controls, and they're all under 300 so far.. Oh, and the thermostat controls aren't broken, pulled up a PDF of the manual, its the way its meant to be. And I finally tested the heated seats, I mean its California, it doesn't get that cold, but my bum got nice and toasty. Still running the Purple Beast through some tests, but other than spending 80 to fill it up yesterday, and the cd player, I'm perky.. So thanks for the Crutch link, I totally forgot about them since this is the first time since 2002 that I've picked up a headunit, they usually don't die, but I usually don't use OEM.

I hear ya- i like doing some things myself and Crutchfield made the Kenwood installation easy. The headunit matches nicely with my MB Quart speakers and USX-200 amp. You might need Al and Ed's to troubleshoot the right headunit to do with those OEM Bose speakers. Good luck and happy listening!
Crutch usually makes things easy, its how I did my Alpine, but this car is just a new world to me, its like going from Windows 98 to Windows 10. So now the other issue, they didn't give me a key for the wheels, they said it was in the console, its not. So I contacted them, they said they use the same key on the other 4 z's they have on the lot, so I'm assuming its OEM, or a brand that's pretty common for wheels for that year of Z's since they're using the same key for the 3 others they have on the lot.

Replacing the head unit isn't terribly difficult. There are a lot of DIY's/write-ups available on how to remove the OEM head unit. Since you have the Bose system, you will need a signal converter from an aftermarket head unit to the OEM Bose speakers like the PAC ROEM-NIS2. In order to retain the steering wheel controls, then you'll need a separate module (axxess aswc-1 steering wheel control adapter) and wire that in.
It can easily be done for less than a thousand dollars. If you do it yourself, go through Crutchfield, get a basic single DIN, and let them do all the wiring with the PAC converter and steering wheel controls, you come in under $250.

Sounds fairly easy, going to put it off until after the holidays since I want to make sure nothing more essential is wrong with the car. That tire lock thing bugs me, the dealer swore he put the the key in console, but now he's saying they only have one for the other 2 Z's they're selling and to come down so he can just give me normal lug nuts, its over an hour drive, don't feel like it. Gotta go to Nissan or my tire place, see if they can figure out what brand the lock is so I can just buy a replacement kit myself. The dealer is losing a star for this one..
Once I'm good to go stereo wise, get rid of that slight squeak on the door on cold mornings, simple lubricant should do the trick since I was able to use a spray bottle to get rid of for hours yesterday until the water dried, I'm gonna have to say I love my f'in car. Hit 96 without even realizing it, just damn smooth. Paying for 91 isn't fun however, but I'll just cut back on wasteful driving, or pray gas prices come down (notgonnahappen).
