Default 5 "Z" cars at the Runoffs

There are 5 Nissan 350Z's entered for the SCCA runoffs held in Topeka, Kansas on 14 October. 667 total cars entered for the 3 day event starting on friday 12 October thru sunday the 14th. Nissan will have a large tent for all the Nissan cars entered and will have their motorsports people there along with a few spares for us. Stop by and say hi. Bob Hines

I will be trying to get to the races that the Z's are in. Cost - $10 a day. Racing seen - Priceless. Also have friends in American Sedan and SSB. Only 70 miles away.

Don't forget the Nissan contenders in GT3. John Black in a tubeframe GT3 350Z is picked by SportsCar to win. Hope they're right!

Sadly, GT3 was only the 25th most popular SCCA National class in '07. That means this traditional bastion of Nissan supremecy will not be featured at the Runoffs in '08. Who will be 'run off' next?

Bob- I don't doubt that GT3 will retain National status in '08. It's just that the class will not get a Runoffs berth and may lose participation and interest. I hope you post what you hear at the Runoffs forum meetings, but doubt there will be any decisions made that week.

Also wanted to put in a good mention for Jim Goughary's 350Z in GT2. Anyone who saw the picture of him 'flying' to the Runoffs title in '04 knows his Z is always a contender! Last year he was running a limited-prep 3.5 liter VQ and it sounded GREAT as he fought from behind in the pack.

So, is anyone going out to lovely Topeka to watch the Runoffs? I know 5 Z's that could use a fan base

Drive on!

First (Monday) T2 qualifying session is over and Rob is 4th, Ken 6th and Jason H. 10th. Apologizes to any 350Z campaigners I missed and good luck to all during the week!

I actually have a guy I work with who is a mechanic for five different teams and some of thows are open wheel. So I might head to the races with him just to see what it's like. It should be a blast and Good Luck to all the Z competitors. I actually live in KC so it isn't a far drive.

Second T2 qualifying session is finished and Rob stays 4th, Ken in 6th and Jason Henderson moves up two spots to 8th. Go 350Zs!

Interesting to note the top three slots are held by FI cars (Evo and supercharged Solstice), so the Z is doing quite well.

I believe Ziegler is running a Solstice too. Knowles is going to be tough to beat. The Solstices are basically factory supported. GM engineer John Heinrecy who drives for Joe A. will make sure those cars are set up to perfection. Todays session is early 8:00 AM CST. Wish I was there......

I was watching. No results yet. Hard to tell because there are some suspect times listed which mess up the grid. I know Jason moved ahead of Rob 1:47.114 to 1:47.22.......I think J is either 4th or 5th with Rob 5th or 6th.....Knowles is another zip code at 1:45.9. Ziegler didn't go faster. Buttermore ran a 1:46.958. Not sure if Zabinski's listed time is correct....

Did Pontiac pay off the rulings committee this year? What is the min weight of those Solstices and what concessions have they been allowed?

Here we go. Nice job Jason & Rob. Basically the Phoenix prepped Solstices are factory backed GM racers. John Heinracy races for Phoenix and is a GM engineer/test driver. Joe A. has connections and got 3 cars. Can't fault him for that. You do the math. I guarantee you Jason & Rob don't have the money behind them team Phoenix does.
