Default Commentary from the back of the grid

Don't let the 4th place qualifier fool you. He withdrew his Camaro and is driving a Solstice GXP. Pontiacs qualified 1-6 and Knowles did a great job in LOWERING his lap record from a year ago. You know those inlet restrictors didn't affect any mid-range power--only the top end (slightly). Kudos to Rob Hines for leading the non-turbo class!

As for me, no excuses. Just not quick enough and this will be my first Runoffs starting from the opposite end of the field! HPT has proven to be a tough nut to crack and my setup changes for the last qualifying led to three spins from excess oversteer.

But I'm not giving up--getting the wrenches out and trying to move up!

Keep plugging away David. Congrats to my friend Greg for putting the 240Z on the E Prod. pole! Sorry I am missing this......Maybe the GXP's will take each other out! Congrats to Rob for his good showing in T2 and his pole in T3!

I see in GT3 that John Black in a 350Z took the pole. His fastest lap was one second quicker than 2nd place.

More kudos to Rob for being the top 350Z finisher in 6th. He had company, however, with two other Z's battling it out. Unfortunately, this turned to tears when there was contact towards the end of the race and one ended up in the wall. Not that they were alone: the two leading Solstices also had contact at the end of the front straight. Last year's champ ended up with a severely bent GXP after hitting BOTH the outer and inner concrete walls!

Should be a 'must see' on Speed Channel whenever the tape-delayed shows are released.

They tossed the Soltice that was first on the track for rough driving. So that made it 3 Soltices, a Mistubishi and then Rob Hines in 5th place in the Nissan 350Z first non turbo car. I will let Rob write the race report.

IMHO, from Bill's in car video it appears the Don drove down onto Bill and it was a racing incident. Very poor decision by the Stewards and the CoA.

EDIT: My comment above is in regards to the first and second place finishers, not the 350Z wreck linked above.

After talking to a GM rep and Sponsored Solstice Driver...I think they will only get faster.

From what I've heard, both decisions (Solstice and 350Z incidents) were based upon giving the other party 'sufficient racing room'.
