Default GPS based lap timing for smartphones

I've been looking for some timing software I can throw on my blackberry and get some data on my lap times. I found one called RaceChrono, but it only works on phones running windows mobile.

Does anyone know of an app for the GPS enabled blackberrys that can record lap times?

Video of it in use.

I found one similar to that. I figured out how to export the data to excel so I can do the calculations there. It is just a ton of work to do that.

I guess for now, I'll just have to do it the long way. We need some Java developers to make this program.

I wonder if your data points are going to be consistent enough for you to use? Polling at 1hz is as good as it's going to get. If you happen to get an email or some other phone feature, you're going to lag. I love doing things with my smartphone(s), but GPS on them drove me crazy. If it wasnt a slight lag, then it was winCE memory management freaking out (which doesnt affect the blackberry). I'd probably look for a 5hz datalogger like this, especially if youre planning to analyze later anyway.

That's pretty cool. I'll have to consider that. $80 bucks is in my price range. I really want one of those Traqmate systems but I can't afford the $1500+ price tag.

while not in the $80 range, you can get all you need in a traqmate system for $699. A pretty good free one is Gmeter Mobile. It uses the accelerometer in phones for a much higher sampling rate.

I'm using a GPS based lap timer on my G1 and its pretty damn accurate. I compared times it read with my video and they are on par. The GPS probably has an error range of .1-.2 seconds but I'm not consistent enough for it to affect me You can't expect much from $5 programs but I think they still help a lot.
