New NASA Class for 2012: Spec Z
What are you guys seeing for tire longevity? I'm speaking specifically to NEW production (2012) R1s, not the crappy stuff from 2011. Are you heat cycling? Taking stickers out for race? Scrubbing during qual? Are they consistent for 6 HCs?
I just priced out a new set from our tire sponsor. They went up 8 bucks, likely due to shipping cost. Oddly enough, the "sponsored" price is $15 higher than OTS pricing at Tire Rack. Am I missing something?

This is what I paid last year for the older manufactured tires...what did you pay of from who?

Spec Z status emaill from "the man" Rich Kulach at nissan USA...
#####################################
This is the first of a SPEC Z group email based upon registrations with our Nissan Racer Support program. I hope this proves beneficial as an effective way to communicate updates and changes with the SPEC Z racers.
I will try to answer a few questions some of you may have;
The 2013 contingency program has been prepared and is awaiting approval from Nissan finance. We will announce it as soon as that approval is secured on both the NASA web site and in an email similar to this. We are very encouraged by the amount of support this class has developed and will continue our support of your efforts in many ways. Thanks to NASA for this opportunity!
One of the items discussed at last year’s championship event by the SPEC Z drivers in attendance was brake cooler kits. We have had a kit developed that is fully compliant to both the NASA rules and the SCCA club rules for brake coolers. A picture of the “prototype kit” is attached to this email. The screen covers are an option that this driver installed and the under tray is not installed to protect the hoses in this picture. The kit is complete with intake, hose; hose clamps, fasteners, and uses your OEM dust shields to fasten the directional cooler. Just a FYI, the OEM dust shields are needed on the car to ensure the wheel speed sensor spacing is properly aligned. If you remove the shield you change the alignment and spacing of the sensors.
The part # for the kit (available exclusively at Nissan Motorsports) is #9996-Z3350 and the racer net price is $355.00. We do have inventory of the kits right now and will be announcing it next week to our dealerships, however you have a head start today!
One other item that was requested and approved in this year’s rule package was the addition of the NISMO 1.5 LSD (available from Nissan Motorsports) along with the Wavetrac differential. This will allow an easier cross over from existing touring cars to the NASA SPEC Z class.
We will send out the 2013 registration package when it is approved and look forward to the continued growth of this exciting class.

I need to sign up for the racer program since I'm just about to have the car running.
I got the high pressure power steering line I needed today from Slidegood but it's cut almost as badly as the one I took off. Once I get that I can send 'er off to be caged and to have the diff (thanks to Clark Crawford!) set up and installed.

What about folks like myself where as we're not racing yet and don't have a competition license yet, but building our cars piece by piece for the time being. Can we still sign up for the program and buy the parts from there?
Note: the BFG program has been released: http://www.nasaproracing.com/conting...Info_SpecZ.pdf
Payout Schedule 1st Place 2nd Place 3rd Place
7 or more starters 3 Free Tires 2 Free Tires 1 Free Tire
5 – 6 Starters 2 Free Tires 2 Free Tires 1 Free Tire
3 – 4 starters 1 Free Tires 1 Free Tire
CIRCLE YOUR FINISHING POSITION AND BFGOODRICH AWARD
7+ STARTERS: 1st = 3 free tires, 2nd = 2 free tire, 3rd = 1 free tire
5 - 6 STARTERS: 1st = 2 free tires, 2nd = 2 free tire, 3rd = 1 free tire
3 - 4 STARTERS: 1st = 2 free tires, 2nd = 1 free tire
My paperwork is at home - was it 4 tires for first place for XX starters last year?
UPDATE: I called BFG. They said it is 1 and 1 for 3/4 starters (regionally).

Hey Guys..didi you notice this in the Nissan Brake Duct info"
"just a FYI, the OEM dust shields are needed on the car to ensure the wheel speed sensor spacing is properly aligned. If you remove the shield you change the alignment and spacing of the sensors"
The thinking is that the backing place is part of the calculation Nissan used in spacing the front brake ABS sensors. If you remove them the ABS Sensor will be too close and potentially rub on the little flywheel gizmo.
So I am gonna check my ABS sensor to see if it is rubbing. If it is I am gonna shim it 1MM. (my backing plates have been removed)

New guy here (to this forum but not to cars). I have read almost the entire thread (at page 44) will finish tonight but had a quick question that I have been unable to fine with searching. I currently have a heavily modified STI (390 whp at 20PSI) that I have started tracking this year (6days so far) and it is awesome but I am heading toward racing and don’t know if want to use the STI for this (too much invested). I have always liked the 350z and I am very interested in spec class racing as I am one of the most competitive people you will meet and think this class would be awesome. Now here is the kicker and why I did not get a 350z many years ago. I am 6’-6” and 220-230 depending on how much McDonalds I eat. Is anyone here or does anyone here know of someone of my stature that has a spec Z car? I have searched and have not been able to find anyone that is 6-6 and has one. I know I don’t fit with the stock sets (do fit in a 04 G35) but did not know about racing seats and the Z’s.
Also, I will be at the NASA event on the 16th-17th in Sonoma and if any spec Z’s are there I would like to check it out and get a ride if at all possible.
Thanks
Blake
