Since SCCA Touring rules allow for updating-backdating, Nissan Sport Project T2 experimented with an engine swap to the HR way back in '08. Both the mechanical and electronic work was detailed in issue #12 of that now-extinct mag.
Unfortunately, that means my '06 Z must meet the same 3400# minimum weight and 275 hp limit all '07-08 models get for 2013.

Yes, same weight requirements but I still think it's worth it.

Glad you liked the pics. We've already got another Spec Z entered for the next RM NASA race at Pueblo Motorsports Park in May. That makes three and enough to kick start the contingency awards.
I'm going to give my future SpecZ car a cageless shakedown this weekend if I can get the oil cooler mounted and the brake light figured out!
I'm a month or so away from my cage builder of choice having an opening.

Was hoping Brian Lock would finish his and/or his customer's SpecZs for NorCal racing this weekend, but to no avail. I was the lone soldier, though I did "earn" my Hawk's Bucks! Here are the highlights:
Set best lap time ever at T-hill with "the bypass" with an official 2:01.2. Will see how long that holds for SpecZ record when others enter the series.
Another hub failure, it had MANY events though:

We hit an ~8# rabbit, which biffed stuff up and shed blood all over, but nothing major:

Found bunny fur all over the underside, as well as on the O2 bung to the ART pipes, which broke off mid-test day. We re-welded it on site with some good Samaritan neighbors:

Added some graphics (more added after this pic, including NISSAN to the left of "219":

So for those who have experienced a Nismo stud failure, either post here or shoot me a PM with a description of the failure and pictures if you have them.
Thanks!

Over the weekend I pulled the wheels off of the Spec Z and discovered a broken Nismo stud. So I sent a picture of it to my Nissan Parts guy this morning and he contacted Nissan Motorsports about it. He asked if there are others with this issue to please gather pictures and/or write a statement about it. I told him I was switching over to ARP studs anyway, but given the potential safety issue here I think we should be proactive about it and get Nissan the info they need to make a change to the part.
So for those who have experienced a Nismo stud failure, either post here or shoot me a PM with a description of the failure and pictures if you have them.

In other news, did y'all realize that Alcon is a sponsor?

Also, with just four Hawk stickers (available at tech) you earn $50 in Hawk bucks for first place and $25 HB for second place. Just finish the race and go back to tech to claim your bucks, no minimum number of cars needed!

Also, can anyone chime in on if your local NASA region has any kind of 'awards' ceremony for your area that includes SpecZ? If so, does it have a minimum number of participants? I'm learning a lot more about how the regions do things differently - for better or for worse - so am trying to understand the differences. NorCal's new policy is "no awards ceremony for small groups" of 5 or less. Way to support the two new classes, NASA NorCal!
So I am seeing that the front is a wear item, how about the rear? Also I'm going to grab some Timken fronts on RockAuto but they don't seem to have the rear hubs just the bearings? Any idea where I can get a set of rear ones at a reasonable price?
I have read that the manufacturing for Nissan's studs DID change years back, and that the NISMO studs are made out of the same alloy as the stock studs. It has been on my TO DO list to bring them both to my place of employment to confirm and compare the compositions of each. I'll try to move that back up my list. . .

You guys wanted more vids, so. . . here is Sunday's group C race. Good battle in the last 1/2 with a fast M3 Bimmer, and a ridiculous Miata up my a$$ for way too many laps. The car did feel good though, but there's oil mist on the back bumper. My poor new stickers!
