All mounted up. A little worried because I bent the aluminum hood pins to get the right hood angle. I could see some superficial cracking.
But what if there were a track car that looked this stupid?

There isn't a lot of force on them, especially if you run some tape across the front. The pins are soft though, very easy to damage the threads.
I think the rest of the car needs a paint. 10 cans of Plasti dip...

If your worried or if they pins break on you, Aerocatch referred me to a shop in California that make Stainless steel replacement pins that are the correct size and pitch and they are slightly beefier and cheaper than the pink aluminum ones. They also sell the pink aluminum ones if you prefer.

I'm too tired to write everything down that happened this weekend let along find my camera in my car and post pictures.
Thursday I finished with my stupid hood. Friday I was supposed to go to can alignment to get my race seat put in the right spot.
I went to work on Friday in the Z which was embarrassing. People were asking me about it at work and checking it out. I was running late for the appointment and decided to jump in the car and pull out of the lot. I was so distracted I didn't re-latch the hood pins and I got hit in the windshield by a neon yellow tooth about 40-50ft from work.
Wow I felt like an idiot. I took the hood off and carried it back to work. The hinges were bent so the hood wouldn't close. The windshield was broken.
I called a company called Go glass. They came Friday night and they replaced the windshield so I could race.
I spoke to Dale Dummy Nissan in London about getting new hinges. They said it would be no problem and Id have both hinges in tomorrow am.
No! they are dummies. The right hinge came in but not the left. The guy at the front felt like crap. The manager ordered on immediate delivery, and one delayed. To come on Tuesday. I don't understand how that is possible. But after some calling I had to drive to Burlington Nissan to get the left hinge.
I spent the rest of Saturday re-assembling the front body work on the car.
I arrived at the track on Sunday early and uneventfully. But in the staging lane to get onto the track I noticed what I thought sounded like an exhaust leak.
Not giving it too much thought I did a few practice laps. But the car didn't seem to have the punch it used to.
After a few laps and a lot of faster traffic killing me, I pulled off. 30 mins later I tried to start the car but it wouldn't. I tried again and it sputtered to life in a cloud of smoke and the dash lit up.
I popped the hood and immediately pulled plug 4. It was completely melted. A buddy had a code reader and it was P0300 multiple cyllinder misfires. So my brother drove into town and got some extra spark plugs. I came to the track with 2.
I replaced 4 of the spark plugs as thats all we could get our hands on.
The car started up but the idle was rough. The shifter was bounding everywhere.
Knowing it couldn't get much worse I decided to score as many points as possible in a blaze of glory. For the first time I didn't qualify 1st for the time attack round. With only a couple practice laps in a wounded Z I qualified at 1:24.8
A green 240 qualified at 1:24.3, and a white 240 did 1:24.5. The white 240 was second place in the championship, and the green 240 was much further back, having only done 1 event prior.
So I don't know I will let the video tell the rest.
So anyways. 1:24.5 on less than 5 cyllinders.
The drive home was hilarious. 3 people were screaming at me that I was smoking. A police officer pulled me over and said, you know your car is on fire jokingly. I explained I probably blew some piston rings at the track and called a tow truck but it was a 90 min wait, and I decided to limp home. He just told me to go straight home as I was crawling at the speed limit at the time.
And lastly. This is an attempt at a footwell cam from my only practice time.

The good news I'm in first by quite a bit after winning the first 3 rounds, and finishing second in this round.
The guy in second finished 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st.
So I only need to finish 4th or better to win the year.
Best of all GT-Rob said I could enter his car and do some laps. I have no problem breaking my things. But there is no way I'm breaking someone else's car. Still even in a parade lap short shifting I bet Robs car will run 1:27.0. The odds of 4 cars entering that can beat me is negligible.
We will find out Sept 23rd in the season finale.
I want to hear it bouncing off the limited in every gear. 1:25s or you walk home
:P
You are welcome to have the car a week in advance and a week after the race if you want to swap anything over (sways, suspension, etc). You are also welcome to drop the exhaust an run open headers
