Default Brakes and E-Brakes...

Wtf...i havent owned my car for 2 weeks, and maybe it's just me but...I drive an 07 Touring and I parked at my first hill today...

To my surprise my E-brake doesn't hold my car and it starts rolling down...I would think it would hold my car until I can put it into first...But when i put it into 1st i notice i hear creaking like its not gonna hold either...so anyways...this isnt like some huge hill its just a normal hill...so I decide to park somewhere else...so i don't put some strain on anything because the sound didnt sound natural...

So I push the clutch in take it off first and my car starts rollling down the hill quickly. And yes...my E-brake is still on...wtf...so i start panicking and try pressing the breaks and my brakes of locked up...so I basically can't stop the car...

I've never had this occur to me in any car whatsoever...

Luckily there was no car behind me and I just rolled to a completely flat land...

but did i do somethign wrong? can anyone help me out a little...

yea i know but shouldn't the e-brake hold...

and why do my brakes lock up...i basically can't stop my car from rolling down the hill...no matter what i do...so basically if somethings or someone is behind me while im rolling im screwed...

Unless...i quickly put it into 1st and that'll do some serious damage...

does anyone else know what the problem is?

^ Your brakes don't work when the car is not turned on because they are power brakes. They won't work if the car is turned off..

less damage than you rolling into something or someone... also why would you take it out of first with the car off? my ebrakes always hold on all but the steepest hills. but i still always leave it in gear to be safe.
also that creaking noise is probably just the gears engaging as the car rolls back. perfectly normal.

I was confused by brakes "locking up"...I pictured you skidding down some 60 degree grade - my bad

If the road has a curb you can always park close to it and turn the front wheels against it.

Maybe new ebrake pads/shoes?

bring it to the dealer or get yourself a FSM so you can tighten the ebrake yourself. You can tighten it.

^ Yeah, sounds like a case of the ebrake needing tightening. I know my ebrake alone will hold my car on any hill I've parked it on, and its an '03. Theres really no excuse for it not to hold, unless you're not fully engaging it.

That isn't quite how "Power" brakes work. With the engine off there is no assistance provided, so you have a very heavy pedal. They will still work, it will just require a lot more leg effort to activate them.

I definitely 3rd or 4th (or whatever the count is at) to have them checked to make sure they are adjusted correctly.

I'd also go with the turning your wheels to the curb as well so if the car does roll it can only go a few inches.
