SPL compression rod bushing...how long does it last?
My car was lowered on nismo stunes for a few years and I just installed JICs. Mechanic pointed out to me the ripped compression rod bushings and recommended I replace with OEM or nismo brand, but I dont want to have to do this again in a few months. I think I'm lowered about 1-1.5".
The SPL bushings are solid, but has anyone had them fail on track or after awhile?
My car is currently setup for light track use....thanks.

there is no such thing as a NISMO compression rod bushing
the SPL longevity will all depend on the conditions under which its being asked to operate, and the rest of the stuff done to the car. Track/street shouldn't matter too much, it's the condition of the track/street, etc.
as of now I think they are undergoing a revision or at least a new batch so I dont know if any are available for purchase at the present time

Mine lasted 4-5 months of normal daily driving before beginning to make noise....needless to say I was pissed considering how much they cost. First the passenger side started knocking then the driver side as well. I've pulled them at this point and replaced them with new oem rubber bushings...no noise. I've posted this info on G35driver.com since there have been a few people noticing knocking of the SPL comp. rod bushings. Here's the thread:

And here's what they looked like after pulling them:
(BTW I was drinking at the time so excuse the...off quality and commentary)

thanks for the info and vid. you are right, they are expensive, but I've already ordered them. I'm setting up my car for light track use, and its not my DD. Hopefully these bushings will last a couple years at least.

POST 4 vid review:
okay, I have mentioned this here and there on threads, but the SPL compression rod bushings make the knock noise and WILL score if your car is lowered......and i mean lowered about 1.3 inches or so, or combination of minimal lowering springs and huge 20 inch rims.......same difference...
this is why, and this my be hard to explain but here goes:
- go grab a flash light and look at a fully stock 350z......lay on the ground and point a flash light at the stock compression rod and bushing, you will notice that the compression rod is exactly 90 degrees from normal to the bushing.............ie, a " T " on its side. get it..
- once you lower a z, the compression rod must point UPWARD, due to the lowering,.... thus causing an angle of the compression rod orientation.
SPL did their best in making this bushing in that their cones are tapered big time..yet when morons lower their cars too much it causes the compression rod to point UPWARD from normal and then hitting bumps, etc causes the tapered cones to make contact with the bushing seat.......
the only thing i think spl could do better is remake the end cones so that they aren't tapered but more shaft like...
like these that leeboyny had made:

these were taken from my mention on post 23 of the suspension 101 thread to here: https://my350z.com/forum/7479270-post1.html
if you notice leeboyny's are shaft like and have no taper, thus i doubt his make contact with the race seat....
inspect spl bushings closely, you will see that the cones are tapered aggressively and the bushing itself is tapered to aid in BEST avoiding contact......
I think SPL figured this would come up and i dont doubt hes working on a different cone configuration but - ANYONE can easily take these to a machine shop and have some shaft like ends made similar to leeboyny's and avoid the noise...
hands down, the spl compression rod bushings are GOLD....everyone with a 350z is lucky that spl produced a product in 2010 for a car that is out of production as of 08.......the spl compression bushing is well worth it..

If you have a stock z with stock rubber compression rod bushing and you LOWER your car....
With it being lowered an "inch or a mile" sitting there in your driveway your z is tearing your oem compression rod rubber bushing.....due to the upward angle the compression rod is not sitting at at rest even...
winning is winning....lol..

here in TX I have worked on tons of Z's and our super hot climate, etc would result in brittle bushings with tons of cracks and/or straight up torn bushings..
like anything else its a monitor/inspect and replace item.......

I'll be checking here pretty soon again...when I'm checking my car is on all four stands. I'm using a flashlight and poking at bushings with a screwdriver....
thanks for the info...those spl parts have been on my list to buy for awhile...
