Default Upgrade on Brake Pads

I am intrested in replacing my stock pads on my 03 Enthusiast.
Street use only. Have been reading some about "green stuff" pads. Anyone have any experience with these or have another suggestion?

Don't get the EBC Greenstuff pads. I haven't seen a single positive review yet. I've heard a lot, however, about how they unevenly deposit pad material on your rotors, which results in steering wheel vibration at high speeds. Bad news.

I just ordered some Hawk HPS pads, and I should have them installed next week. I've heard great reviews thus far.. I'll let you know what I think. You can get them on TireRack for ~$120 shipped for all 4 wheels. I've also heard good things about Carbotech Bobcats and Porterfield R4S. I believe they're both slightly more expensive than the Hawk HPS, but I'm not certain.

I got the Hawks, great product. They are about the same as the Greenstuff pads. JesseEnglish and a few others have the Greenstuff pads, they have said all good things. The new pads do tend to squeak a little at low speeds, but nothing compares to NO MORE BRAKE DUST.

Ensure you break in those new pads also.

GL!

Tireack.com sell the fronts for $70 shipped. Greenstuff or Hawks.

The hawks are nice, I had those for a while. No brake dust. But they sqweeled alot.
So I switched to Satisfied Pro Ceramic pads from Tire Rack.
Now, no dust or sqweel.

Avoid EBC at all cost.

Why?
Worst products ever. If they are given to you for free, you are still being ripped off.

I just installed the Hawks HPS' on my Z last week and I can't stop gushing about them! I haven't had (well...almost) a speck of dust on my wheels yet. AND, I'm surprised at this....NO SQUEEL..at all! Don't know what I did or didn't do as I was prepared to hear the dreaded squeel on these pads. My wife even noticed the car was cleaner "looking".

How about a little bit better constructive critisism here? Care to explain why they are so bad?

I have heard many good things about them.

Well, I have had Hawks on my fronts for about 6 months now, and there is a reduction in dust that is easy to see. Now, I still get dust, but alot less of it. The brakes do squeal every so often, but I have noticed that it is mainly when it has been real dry outside and I haven't washed the car in a while.

When they do dust, the dust has a reddish look at first on my iforged polished lips, lot better than the black of the stock pads. Make sure you bed the brakes according to the instructions given by the brakes. I will probably buy the Hawks again.

Oh, how they suck, let me count the ways...

Greenstuff: We have *multiple* reports of greenshit wearing completely out in 3000 street miles (I work in the industry, I take the calls). When driven evenly slightly aggressively, they leave horribly uneven material deposits on your rotor, giving you massive braking vibration. Despite their claim of low dust, they produce an amazing amount of it (after all, they wear out in as little as 3K miles!!). When used on track, I have personally seen someone go through a fresh set in 1 (one, uno) 20 minute session. I mean, to the baking plate. Lots of people buy this product once. And never again. I have never, ever, ever actually talked to someone who has anything positive to say about greenshit.

Redstuff: I purchased a set for track use, which is exactly the environment EBC markets this product for. I burned them to the backing plate in 50 track miles. FIVE-ZERO. Ninety bucks, fifty miles. And 10 of those were orientation laps. And their friction coefficient was stunningly horrible. I had to move my braking points back almost 200 feet to get the car to stop compared to what I had previously used (Carbotech, Hawk and KFP). I took a call from a Viper owner 3 weeks ago that buzzed through a set in 15 laps, and then did $15,000 damage when he hit the tirewall when his brakes completely went out. **** poor product.

Yellowstuff: After I complained to EBC about redshit, they sent me a sample of yellowshit. Performace was exactly the same as redshit, but it actually lasted 150 miles before they wore to the backing plate. Still didn't stop worth a damn at all ever.

I'm telling you that company has NO FREAKIN' CLUE how to stop a car. I advise everyone to get as far away from those products as possible. I will ride a bike before I ever use any EBC product again. I can't believe they are still in business in this country and haven't been sued for negligence. And IMO, the companies that continue to push that crap to the public are equally negligent.

Is that detailed enough for you?

I have had Hawks on my 2000 vette and the were superior to the OEM, just make darn sure you bed them properly or else squealsville for you. Porterfield is another brand of excellence; I had them on my 2001 vette and no dust and no squeal, just once again, bed them properly especially if you are retaining your rotors. Instructions are probably available on line at their websites, or through Google search. I am sorry, but I do not recall the process exactly, and so I will not give you shaky info. It is a process where you heat them up gradually, apply them at varying speeds at varying rates, and cool down between and after. Enjoy.
