KYB Excel-G
I have been searching and cant find many reviews on KYB shocks/struts for our cars.
I ran across 2 old reviews on the GR2 KYB and the complaint was it was not much change over stock. I dont plan on lowering the car and dont want to spend 800 on shocks. I am fine if its the same as stock.
Do any 350z owners have KYBs currently, more importantly the Execl-G which i suspect is the same thing as GR-2 but with fresh paint.

Can someone point me to a link that talks about KYBs?
Oh and I was wanting tokicos but no one has them currently.

First off this car costs for maitenance bro
secondly $800 for shocks is relatively cheap you have options though
you can get the Tokico Blues, Tokico D-specs if your willing to spend up to 600.
The blues are stock replacements and the D-specs are performance shocks that are adjustable.

Another option would be Koni Yellows. They are in the same price category of the Tokico D-Spec Kit (if not a little more) but have better reviews both here and elsewhere for their handling. There was a set of Koni for sale in the suspension thread a few days ago.

I dont have a problem paying for things just prefer not to. Here are just a few reasons:
1. Im married
2. I own my house
3. We are recovering from a flooded basement that we have to pay out of pocket for.
Those 3 things along should keep from getting the "bro" comments. Im not 20years old living with my parents and struggling to pay for parts.

Unfortunately, you are correct on the Tokico D-Spec being unavailable. Been on the look-out for some time with with IPP and they are just nowhere to be found new.

Even though the drive is short- the 133k mi on my stock shocks/struts is not bearable anymore.

If you are at stock height, want a cheap replacement for oem and only are going to need them for around a year, maybe a year and a half... I would recommend Monroes shocks. I have not used them in my Z but i have on previous cars with stock suspension. The ride is close to oem and will definitely last you the year and half until your M5 comes along. They are cheap, and should cost you under $500.
I am currently running KYB GR2 and i'm not too sure i like them. I bought them new with Hotchkis lowering springs (about 0.75" drop), and i feel they are more harsh than OEM. Now, that could be because i have them paired with a spring rate that is not a good match with these shocks, or they are not made to be used with a lowering spring, or maybe something completely different. I'm not sure, but to me, they are stiffer than oem. My Z is a 2004.5 so i was coming from the stiffer revised shocks, and i still feel these are stiffer than those revised shocks.
I went with these simply because i could not get my hands on Tokico HP blue shocks.

Thanks- I am a vendor for KYB actually...shhhh lol....I just was looking for actual reviews. I glad you have them- I wont mind if they are stiff- My stock ones have over 133k mi on them and the car rolls like a caddy. ha!
I just ordered the KYB (should be the excel-g)- I will do a write up if anyone is interested between worn out stock to KYB.
The monroes I get for the same cost so KYB it is.
Should have them by Friday for weekend install, unless the wife has other plans.
I'm a service writer and was able to swindle a set of kyb's from one of my vendors for literally next to nothing. I figured it'd be stupid not to try them out. My stock suspension was beyond worn in the back and wouldn't rebound what so ever in the front unsprung. That said the kyb's are super soft i'd only recommend running stock springs w/ them. Medium speed 30-50 mph on **** roads in Cincinnati going over consistant bumps leaves the tire basically off the road from it being so softly valved. Girlfriend is in love w/ them FYI. I'm wanting to jump to some either eibach sport line's or coilovers and these will go atop the pile. Lemme know if you have any specific questions.

Umm ok? I dgaf what your situation was, you asked a question and i told you your options. Your looking for cheap options to replace oem parts, those are the options and if maintenance isnt a problem than you would understand that it costs to keep this car up.

That's where I stand- these are costing me a few tanks of gas minus my time to install the things and the cost of beers AFTER.
Springs are stock and will stay that way-
I have dpec on my Z with eibach prokit and I dont have any complaints.
I have koni yellows on my m5, although the comparision would not be fair but adjustment on konis seems to have a wider band.
One problem with Dspec is that they cannot be rebuilt, konis do offer rebuild programs. Other than that I do not see any issues.
I guess it comes down to how long you want to keep your Z, and accordingly decide your expenses.

I'm also on the hunt for shocks, low cost ones as well. Considering tocikos Hp, but leaning more for the KYB's... Thinking of mating them with Tein H-tech lowering springs. Any insights on how does springs feel...
I'd be surprised if kyb's could keep up (i.e. actively dampen) w/ lowering springs. I doubt it enough that with free access to a lift and the ability to do the work in under 2 hours myself i wouldn't re-install the kyb's, if i was to install go and install lowering springs. They are super softly damped and you'd likely be bouncing off the bump stops until they'd wear out or fall off.
It should be said that I have a general aversion to repeating repairs and or a general laziness toward working on my own car. Also I've not experienced lowering a Z w/ KYB's while it may be fine.... I've had multiple experiences w/ other vehicles w/ lower springs and KYB's were not exactly ideal.
If you got them as cheap as i got mine you'd probably give it a shot. I'd just be worried about f-ing up a $1000 + set of tires due to cheaping out on suspension.
