350Z buying advice?
I'm picking up my new car on Saturday (tomorrow) and I think that everything is in order, however I wanted to ask you guys if you have any last minute suggestions?
One thing that I am thinking about is getting an extended warantee. I've heard people say that you should avoid getting them if you are getting a car from a quality brand (nissan probably being one of them), however since it's a brand new model I feel like I should probably get one. I don't think I will get one at the time of purchase of my car, I want to drive it around for a little while and get a read for how well put together _my_ Z is. Bad idea? Also, I think I read somebody say that they knew of a online 3rd party place to get extended warantees, where is that? I'd like to at least have a barganning chip down the road if/when I get a warantee.
Again, if you have any good advice on stuff I should watch out for, or ask about, please tell me, this is my first new car

if you get the extended warranty, then that means you'll have to wait even LONGER till you can modify your vehicle.
remember, most dealerships won't do warranty work on your car if they discover that something you installed is what caused the problem.
other than that....i hope you have a good negotiator, god knows i suck at negotiations, so if i ever purchase a Z i'll need someone who can talk slick with people.

Personally I won't buy an extened warranty but that does mean its a bad idea.
If it makes you more secure, get it....not that many bucks.
I believe Dr Bonz posted he bought his warranty from a company other than Nissan.

Just a thought:
I didn't make the decision (yet) to buy an extended warranty on my vehicle at time of delivery. I was told there is no additional cost to purchase the extended warranty in the future as long as it is acquired prior to the expiration of the factory warranty.

If I do get a warantee from Nissan (what I'd probably want to do) I can buy it at any dealer, right? I'll be taking delivery from a dealer that is rather far away from where I live.
As always, The Rat is Right!
I got mine form a place called http://www.warrantydirect.com
They gave me a much better price than the dealer did and they have a lot more options to choose from. I'd check them out before going with the dealer since their mission is to simply pad their profit. Extended warranties are a big way to do that!
Since there are a lot of expensive high tech parts on this car and since it is a first year model, I think it would be foolish to NOT get one if you can afford it.

Thanks Dr. Bonz for the great post about the warranty a while back (https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....warrantydirect)- it saved me from getting screwed! Rgreene be careful with getting a warranty from the dealer. I picked up my Z this past Wednesday and I intended to get Nissan warranty with it since I plan on keeping the car for a while. I wanted to get a Nissan warranty since it eliminates dealing with a third party if something goes wrong with the car. I am very happy with my dealership (see my other thread https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=20189) but I have to admit that their warranty offer was a borderline scam. Here is what happened: The finance manager gave me a quote for the extended warranty, which I thought was a little bit high (~1500). So I tried to negotiate to get him to lower the price. In the process I find out that what he is selling is NOT a Nissan Warranty! I immediately told him I was not interested and asked for a Nissan warranty. Well, he gave me such a high number (2000~3000) I laughed at him and told him to move on.
My guess is that the dealership cannot make that much money selling Nissan warranty. They then go to a similar place like warrantydirect, buy the warranty whole sale, and resell it to you at a price comparable to the Nissan warranty - a huge markup which makes them a lot of money. Why buy from them when you can get it a lot cheaper yourself?
Basically, I can buy extended warranty anytime (before factory warranty runs out I think) after I buy my car. There is a lot of time to decide what you want to do. I am pretty sure you do not need to buy the warranty from the same dealer that sold you your car. Personally, I will be checking out warrantydirect this weekend.
Sorry for the long post

You can purchase your warrenty direct warrenty any time as well but the longer you have the car and the more miles on it, the more the warrenty will cost and the faster you'll reach you miles/years limit obviously.
Warrenty direct had an interesting option. They called it wrap around coverage or something like that. It was fairly inexpensive but it extended your factory "bumper to bumper" coverage out to the length of your engine and drivetrain limit. I didn't get that one but I thought it was an interesting option.

I Up'd my Nissan warranty to 60/75K at the time of purchase for $788 with a $50 deductible. A higher deductible would save a few $$. There was additional cost if you waited to buy after delivery, but not too much for the first 3 mos. (and this IS a warranty from Nissan)
I know someone who spent 3 days in a hotel in Manhattan over a weekend with everything (including bar bills), except his generous tipping covered by Nissan.
Yeah, I'm having to watch my mods- settling for a K&N rather than an Injen but will be doing an exhaust mod.
