Default Buying a 350z

Hey everyone. New around here. I recently sold my 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. It had 8,228 miles on it. It was lightly modified reaching around 400 whp.

I'm currently looking into 350z's.. I have a budget of 17k. I'm looking for a car with 40k miles and below. I'm also looking for a 350z that would be best for slapping that turbonetics turbo kit on. What year is best for that?

When looking for a 350z, what should I look for, sounds, etc... I don't want to buy a 350z and the tranny blows the next day.

Thanks

You should have kept the Evo. BTW from what I have read the turbonetics kit is garbage and the momentum performance kit is far superior. Since you are looking at a single turbo kit then you will want to go with an 03-05 Z that has a VQ35DE. I would stay away from the 03 and early 04 since they are known for having alignment and transmission issues.

I don't know too much on F/I with a Z so maybe a more experienced member will chime in.

Or you could take some time and read these threads:

Thanks sport! The only reason why I sold my evo was because my payments were killing me. The 350z will be half that.

^ +1 on that. I would stay away from turbonetics. If you're open to the idea of twin turbo, JWT makes a kit for around 6k. And in terms of what to look for..I would personally go for an 07/08. You could probably find something that fits your budget with the mileage you're looking for if you're patient. Also keep in mind that '06+ come with the updated headlights and LED tail lights which you'll probably find yourself trying to get a hold of if you end up with an 03-05 (like myself). Most common problems to look out for are window motor issues (either getting stuck or just not working) and oil consumption with the '06 models.

Take your time and read up on the threads sportbike posted, and ask people on the forum for an opinion on a car if you find something. Good luck.

+1 on the momentum kit. That's certainly the kit I will want for my 03 someday. Seems to make more power at less boost compared to other kits...I think due to superior flow design. They talk about it on their website. Don't ditch the 03-04 idea yet. Lots of little things were changed in later models, but hell if you're planning to go FI anyway, save a little of that dough and get a little older model. Besides, the DE did make the most torque out of all the years HR is awesome though, not hatin!!

HR or bust.... The 07-08 are far superior in every way. The 350z got better with time. The HR Z's look better and perform better, win/win!

if you have to get rid of a 5 year old car because the car payments are killing you, cutting your payment in half and boosting an n/a engine is not exactly a smart idea.

what are you budgeting for your turbo build? what will you have in reserves? is this your only car? I don't think you understand what you are getting into.

If you drive a car with 400 horsepower, you will be disappointed with a 350Z. That is unless you slap on a turbo.

When I read the phrase slap on a turbo I know this is a 17 year old without a dime.
