Portal Cable Pads and how to apply
Okay here is what I have so far
7336 Porter Cable
(2) Orange pads
(1) White
(1) Green
(1) Blue
(1) Yellow
Not sure what each one is for. Can someone explain which pad is which and how do I go about cleaning them? I understand you can only use one pad per wax/polisher/swirl remover, ect.
Sorry Kevin Overall, but I lost all of my e-mails due to a dumped computer due to a Trojan Horse Virus,
All I am waiting on is the new Zaino swirl remover/paint cleanser and I can begin. Hurry up Sal!
Do I put the polish/swirl remover on the pad and go in a figure 8 motion. How much do you apply? How long due you buff, ect? WHat setting do I put the orbiter? How do you know you have done the job, alcohol, ect? I am assuming you wipe up with a DF Towel? A step by step would be great:
1. Wash with dawn and claybar, rinse
2. Wash with car soap.
3. Dry
4. Apply Zaino swirl remover until swirls are gone/filled
4. Z-8
5. Apply Z-2 by hand
6. Z-8
Am I missing a step? Thanks for any advice. Does this sound about right, sorry for the long post,
Your car must be freshly washed and dry. Do not buff on a dirty finish.
Work in an area with good lighting. Overhead fluorescent or halogen lighting is best.
Remove all rings, watches, bracelets, belts and other items that will scratch your paint.
Wear an apron to protect your clothing and the paint finish.
Adjust the machine speed to 3 or 4 on the thumbwheel. This is a good starting point.
With the machine switched off, apply a small amount of polish, cleaner or wax directly to the polishing pad. There are two good methods that seem to work. Squeeze out a complete ring of product about 1 inch in from the outside of the pad, or squeeze out an “X” of product across the pad.
Dab the pad in 3-4 spots around the area to be polished, cleaned or waxed to distribute the product.
Position the polisher flat on the work surface, get a firm grip and switch it on with your thumb.
Move the polisher back and forth (east/west) in a slow, sweeping motion, overlapping each pass (by 50% of the pad width) with the previous, and then switch your pattern to up and down (north/south).
It is not necessary to apply more than a pound of pad pressure. Allow the polisher to work under its own weight.
Use a clean pad with each product. Do not mix products on a pad. If a pad is not dirty, you may store it in a Ziploc baggie for future use. Be sure to label the baggie or the pad.
If a pad becomes caked with product, use a nylon or horsehair detailing brush to clean the pad.

In Order from most aggressive to least....
Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Grey
You'll need a velcro backing plate on the PC to attach them.
I think the white is the multi-purpose that comes with the PC.....I personally wouldn't use it.
The Orange and Yellow are cutting pads.....the Green is a polishing pad...and the Blue and Grey are finishing pads.
Make a mark with a marker on the top of the pad so you can make sure it is still spinning.....this should help a beginner out.
I personally like to squeeze the product on the finish.....spread on the paint with the pad while the PC is off. Set PC on finish...turn on...and begin polishing.
Don't forget to always have the machine stopped before lifting off of the surface or you will get a shower.

You have more pads than I even do, I just use them like this:
Orange or Yellow pads for 3M Fine cut rubbing compound or 3M Finesse It II and the white pad for 3M Swirl Mark Remover or the new Zaino swirl remover and paint cleanser. Might use the black or gray pad I have for finishing with a final finish wax or with 3M Imperial Hand Glaze depending on the job. I do not use the green or blue pads.
"Do I put the polish/swirl remover on the pad and go in a figure 8 motion. How much do you apply? How long due you buff, ect? WHat setting do I put the orbiter? How do you know you have done the job, alcohol, ect? I am assuming you wipe up with a DF Towel? A step by step would be great:"
