so how good Z5 really is at hiding swirl?
does z5 fill in swirl noticeably better than other products? say NXT? (one im using now with unsatisfying results). will swirl disappear eventually if i keep adding z5 layers? i have SB.
thank you.
thank you.
Z5 is a great product but it does very little to hide swirl marks no matter how many layers you put. If NXT is not filling in swirls you should consider polishing the paint to remove the swirls. Depending on how bad the swirls are you might be able to use z-pc if the swirl marks are light or a more aggressive polish such as menzerna if the swirls are deep.
There's a lot of variables involved so there is no simple yes/no answer. What color car? How bad are the swirls? Are you going to use only 2 or 3 layers of Z-5 or mix it in with 10 layers of Z-2?
Z-5 works great for me but I only have a few minor swirls. A SB with moderate swirling may get little or no benefit from Z-5. If you're thinking of coming over to the dark side (Zaino), you might want to consider starting with Z-PC. Z-PC is a swirl remover as opposed to Z-5 which only hides swirls.

I put a bunch of Z-5/Z-2 layers on my '05 Super Black and was never able to get the swirls out. Hand application of Z-PC didn't completely help either even after spending a bunch of time in one spot. So I'm awaiting the arrival of a Porter-Cable orbital polisher and I'll step up to one of the more aggressive swirl removers.
All this effort (+400) is to cure the butcher job that the dealer did to the car prior to delivery.

that was what i was afraid of.
i have a SB with swirl all over the car. i've never tried PC due to lack of space, so was hoping maybe z5 could hide the swirl.
so far i've tried 3m SMR, mother's seal and glaze, NXT, etc.. but without successful results.
i think it is time to look for a detailer or find some space to try PC.
thanks guys for your input.

If you've tried SMR and were not able to get the swirls out, then you're doing something wrong. SMR does exactly what it's name says.
If you're doing it by hand, that's probably the problem. I can't imagine anybody doing a whole car by hand. You're gonna need a PC or pay somebody to do it.

Z-pc with some water and a porter did the job well for me. I had some small scratches on my bumper from getting rear ended and they came right out. Followed up with Z-5 and Z-8 and its as good as new.
