Default Am i getting ripped off?

Hey i have a 2003 brickyard. The Front bumper needs to be repainted (lots of chips and a big scratch) and the rear bumper needs to be repainted (previous owner must have had it repainted and its a crappy paint job). So i went to a nissan dealership in pleasanton, ca and they referred me to a shop around town. The guys quoted me $1400 for both the front and back bumper completely repainted. Now this to me sounds VERY high. Any info/suggestions on where i can go to get it repainted and how what is a fair price to pay for this kind of job? thanks in advance guys.

There are companies who go around to dealers who do touch up and especially bumper painting. We used one in Northern Virginia to do some work for us and the cost was $200. He mixed the paint in his van and it was a great match. I found this guy thru a Pontiac saleman that i've known for a few years. If you have anyone you know well who is in sales or general manager positions then call him. $1400 is way too high. Good luck. bobhines

that sounds pretty damn high to me. I was thinking for a good deal quality job I would be paying $900 MAX. Of course i don't plan on getting it done in Pleasanton, CA b/c out here they charge TOP dollar. I'll probably go to Sacramento or Fremont for it. I got quoted over the phone $1000 in fremont with a bodyshop whom i have dealt with in the past so it seems pretty reasonable.

Look at the other vehicles in the shop. If the shop has a good reputation, then you will pay dearly. Quality work costs quality dollars.

davidv is def right, quality work does cost big bucks. a quality full paint job should cost $4 G's+, however you better get head for a year at $1400 for just the front and rear bumpers on a Z. my body shop guy is pretty darn good and he will charge a typical customer $800 for the front and rear on a Z, he did mine for $500. I'd shop around if I were you...

I live in Fremont. You can try TJ Bros Body Shop. 510-796-3022. I used them several time and their price seemed reasonable.

dude thanks a million. I will call them monday morning. I also went to a body shop in fremont. I have used them about 3 times before on my honda accord so i figured a repeat customer would get a good price but i was wrong. The guy wrote up the estimate for close to $1500 and he didn't even include the price to remove the scratches.

my local dealer replaced the rear bumper and painted it for $500. Sounds like your guy is high.

maybe cuz i'm in california so they charge me an arm and a leg. I even went to sacramento and got a quote. They said for $875 they would replace the front bumper with a new one and paint as well. They also said they would buff out the rear bumper to try to make it glossier and their are no guarantees that it would come out better. so i'm still in the same boat. These people charge an arm and a leg for the labor rate.

i actually finally found a body shop (thanks bubble) in san jose. Some members here have used him in the past and he gave me an offer i couldn't refuse. I just have to wait a week or 2 to get the money first. I'll let you guys know how it comes out.
