so I got my dr's put on and took it to the track.
This time I took the Stop Light Fuse out as suggested here but I had a different result:
even while standing if I'd hit the break and the gas at the same time the SLIP and ABS lights would immidiately come on and when I tried the burnout the car actually shut off.
Is there anything different in the 04 Z that causes a different behaviour?

yep, because I had taken the wrong fuse out before.
This is my first rear wheel I'm only used to front wheel burnouts, so I got to do lost of practicing, but I want to make sure I do it right

yes sir I did
I went last night again, left the fuse in and just hit the throttle harder and got some decent burnouts, at least I got my 60' down to 2.1's I'm getting there.

2.1 60 foots on DRs isnt that greatest sorry to say. You should definitly keep practicing becuase I know some poeple who have pulled off better 60 foots on potenzas. What rpm are you alunching from? Bring it up in the revs a little more and try feathering the clutch more or something. You should be able to at least bring that thing down to 2.0 or even under that with DRs.

my point exactly, I used to do 1.8's on my front wheel drive celica...but at least I got some improvement done
I don't think dr's on 18" wheels is good though, I'm seriously thinking of changing the rear tires to 16" wheels when using dr's

Just read about a VW 4cylinder running 30# boost with stock bottom end.

daaaamn seriously! 2.0 60' and ran a 12.2! hahaha Your car has mad acceleration! Im assuming the car was on street tires becuase you have all that power and only managed to hit a 2.0 60. I bet if you mounted Mickey thompson street ETs you would hit mid 11s with that setup.
Also you are in luck. Infineon had the rules set that if you ran a 11 second 1/4 even a 11.99 you need a roll cage in your car. Just recently they changed it to 11.4 I believe. I know this becase my buddy hit 11.9 in his chevelle and they woudlnt let him come back until he put a cage in it. So he finally put a cage in it and then they tell him that they changed the rule! hahaha sucks for him. But if you are that fast you are dumb for not having a cage regardless if you ask me.
