13.93!! and I WANT MORE!
I never thought drag racing could be so much fun, I was screaming like a kid in my car last night after I saw my times... I knew I had run harder than ever but I wasn't expecting this.. I was so excited and I still am! But now I want more! So drag racing gurus, once again.. I might need your expert advice.
My 60ft came down from a 2.35 to a 2.17 so that part is good but I think I could do better. I ran a 13.93 at 99mph and I'm basically stock with just an intake and Nismo rims with 275/40/18 BFG KDWs.
Last night at Maple Grove, I ran the pressure at 33 and I did not play with it whereas at Englishtown, I tried 17, 18 and 20 which did not help. With the expert advice of some, I learned that lowering the pressure that much does not help since these aren't drag radials so I put the pressure back up to 33.
But I still think that if I try around 25-27psi next time, it might help to get my 60fts closer to 2.0. I think I still have room in the ET and I definitely want to be closer to mid 13s...
What do you guys think? Not that bad for a beginner eh?

Congrats. I ran a 13.9 my first time as well. You definately should be able to run close to, if not under, 2s with the KDWs. Last night was a very good night to be at the track. I was planning on going but went to a movie instead. When I got out, it was really cold and my digital thermo read 65 degrees! Anyways, start modding. You should hit mid 13s in no time

Memed! Oh my god! That is so awesome, congrats on the time. I was just reading the posts on drag and saw the time and I didn't know if it was you or not. I was looking all day to see if you posted since I didn't know your name here.
My best last night was still 2.169 60' time @14.92- 95.03mph, not too good but I had a 1/2 tank of gas and didn't take anything out of the car to make it lighter. I plan on catching up to you soon! I'll be taking out my passenger seat, spare tire and I am getting a set of drag radials with light wheels. I went to tirerack.com but they don't offer much for z's except heavy chromy kinds. All I really want are light inexpensive wheels and drag radials so I can switch them before racing.
Wow. How did you do your launch and shifting? What rpm was your launch and what rpm where you shifting? We were leaving when the guy had is accident on the bike. Was he ok? I wasn't willing to wait another hour for a run. 3 runs in 4 hours was long. We are going to atco Tuesday night so I can get more practice in before Z day at e-town. Any chance of you making it to atco before you leave?
Anyway, I totally loved meeting you. Did you meet the guy in the burnt orange Z? I was looking around but didn't see him. Did he run? Would love to hang out again. Let me know when you are back again and maybe we can meet up at an event. Sorry to hear you'll be away for Z day. That is going to be fun!!!

BluZee.. I'll try 25 psi as well, we'll see how that works out. I just want to get a 13.7 or maybe even a 13.6 without mods, we'll see if I can manage.
SignZ!! Thanks, I still can't wipe off the silly smile off my face haha! I was telling my friend that all I wanted was a 14 flat before I went home. Anyway.. I will tell you in detail on how exactly I launched when we get to meet again but this is what I did in a nutshell: I rev it to about 1700-1800, definitely below 2000. I practically dump the clutch at 1700-1800 but let's call it a hard feathering because I don't completely let go either. I think the reason why your clutch was slipping was because you feathered it too much with too much gas. Don't worry, you won't stall if you dump the clutch at 1800rpm since you also need to floor the gas in the same time, wheelhop is another issue though. That gave me a 2.17 60ft but I think I need to lower the tire pressure a bit, that was at 33psi. Also, Maple Grove seems to be a slower track than E-town, that's what I hear from the drag gurus I'll try to make it to Atco Tuesday night but I'm not sure since I work till 5pm, we'll see if I can leave a little early, I might be able to make it down there, I'll PM you here tomorrow.

Congrats. Now you can be sure your car is faster than my 240sx in the quarter mile. However, I can still take you on in brackets.
BTW if you want to break records Atco is a better track. You might pull off a 13.6 or 13.7 there. I trapped at 106 there on a 90 degree day last weekend and I also did my 13.8 at Atco first before backing it up at Englishtown. Although as you know during the summer mine is a low 14 sec car all day long.

Hey Zen! thanks.. I wasn't expecting that to be honest, I knew it'd be my best run so I expected a 14 flat or very close until I saw the slip.. so needless to say, I was very excited. I'll try to post a scan of the slip later on.
Hey.. I know I am the grasshopper here but I'm destined to beat the master, it's inevitable! So friend, I say bring it on! hahaha!
PM me if you would like to join us at atco.. if not, looking forward to meeting up at the next event. I'm gonna miss the one on July 2nd weekend because I'll be travelling.

I always wear a helmet no matter what anyway...
I trust myself being able to go straight for a quarter mile etc but not the guy next to me. Plus, some of the 60s-70s American muscle is quite scary at those speeds, you never know.
Your time is awesome.. what have you done to your car? Going to Atco tonight with a friend so if anyone is going, look out for a white Z and a red Z and say hi. Cheers.

Nice run congrats; I remember my 1st 13 second pass, it was my first run ever in the Z. Mid 2.1 60ft and I went 13.80 @ 100.8 Actually Ive never run 14's in my Z, always in the 13's, except 1 time I missed a gear and let off-lol I try not to remember that time. Anyways, nice job, work on your launch and shifting a little and you'll be mid 13's in no time.

I'm honestly not sure if it's the shifting.. I'm actually a pretty good shifter.. I think it's still in the launch.
I was at Atco last night and it didn't go as well as I expected. Well first, I want to blame it on the track. They made us ALL drive thru the water so you couldn't avoid it. I did a bigger burnout after I got out of the water to clean off my street tires but I don't think it helped. My trap speeds however are better since they were all between 101.15 and 101.38 but that's not the issue. My best run was a 14.0 with a 60ft of 2.22. I just couldn't hook up at all and I tried playing with tire pressures, which didn't seem to help so I started believing that playing with street tire pressures doesn't do anything at all. My best 60ft of 2.17 to date was on 33 psi, and that was my run of 13.93.
We'll see.. I just wanted to see a 13.7 before I started modding but I guess I'll have to keep on trying to better my launch to a 2.0 or close.
Thanks for the advice guys.

try 25 psi
If you can swing it, get some nitto drag radials or 555R IIs they have a stiffer sidewall for turning. they will be addicting and you wont want to run any other tire on the street. I prefered them to my slicks on the street. they work awesome in the rain as long as there is still tread life.
see how far you can get the car down without modding. It might not impress others all that much but it is a great personal accomplishment. back when i was strapped for cash i was working my way down to 12s with driving and weight reduction as my only mods. i'll never forget my first few 12 second passes.

i just got done running today at Raceway park in Englishtown, NJ...it was HOT as **** today. Pretty close to 100. Everyone's car ran like crap. The quickest Z that I saw there ran a 14.4, and my best time in my G was 14.6....I was pretty consistent with 14.6-.8 ......man, my 60' times are horrible, my best was only a 2.38, i was averaging 2.6-.7, my reactions where good, a few .094s and I stayed around .2-.3..my top speed was a constant 98 and 99mph, a few 97mph runs..any advise on what rpms to launch and how to control the wheel spin...I am pretty confident with hitting 99mph, that I should crack a 13.9 on a nice COOL day...any suggestions

launching at a little above 2000rpm seems to work for me but I still can't go lower than 2.17 60ft on 275 BFG KDWs.. I do get wheelhop but if I go any higher RPM, I get tons of wheelspin. I'd say the ideal is probably to slip the clutch at a little higher than 2k.
your trap speed is directly related to the altitude and temp. Mine seem extremely consistent no matter what I do, I had 98mph in the same conditions, then 99 at better conditions at another track then had 101+ all night at another.. most variance was 0.1mph so very consistent.
