Inexpensive drag wheel and radial set up.
I will run high 12's with these wheels and tires. The only thing stopping me last time was 20 mph sustained winds, with gust up over 30 mph, driving straight down the track.
I would suggest the set up for anyone who doesn't want the slicks quirm, but wants the best hook up with a drag radial. The RX7 wheels are very light, 13 lbs, much lighter than the tire themselves even, which come in at around 27 lbs. The combination should save around 10+ lbs from the factory set up too. I cut 1.8's easily, and with a little more practice on a slippery track, I could have run 1.7's. Those should be easy to attain with a track that is well prepped. Everyone except the guys on slicks and MT DR's was spinning pretty bad on this track. I have run slicks, and these are almost as good, and far better than the Nittos.

The contact patch is over 9 inches wide, and the width is 10 inches, versus 8.5 inches and 9.3 inches for the stock wheels and tires.

You are correct, I have the 13.8 lb version to be exact. Just check for the version, PFD Cast (Brittle).

make a friend to "borrow" them from or get a set for dirt cheap, like 50.
I sold my stock set of 4 with DRs on them for 100

I am going to try and go one more time before it gets too warm. I know she'll go 12.9 now, and would have at SGMP if we weren't driving against a gale force headwind all day!
I'll let you know when I'm going.

I didn't realize those rx7 wheels were that light but I should've known I remember Mazda marketing its light weight, etc, etc.. I just found a pair of 16x7 v6 mustang wheels and are about ~17lbs, the 15x7s are a little lighter. Both can be found very cheap and sometimes given away.
