Gooey those are good times.. the only thing I can say about your 06 is other people with 06 and older models have gone 13.6s so its hard to say that 14.0 with mods is the norm you know?

 

There's the key right there. The same day I ran 13.7 stock was the day an intake/exhaust STI ran 13.8 and 06 Z ran 14.2.

 

That's part of the key... figure out how to clone Veetec and I think you would have it figured out.

 

I've run almost the same time as VeeTec, with the same clutch issues, in worse conditions (weather wise) and good track prep. I've been going to the track a lot to practice, I almost never lose a run to a tire spin, or too aggressive a launch, my 60's are consistent, and I'm outrunning faster cars at the track - you convert my time and I outrun VeeTec. I don't think I'm a better driver, just saying - the car is faster than the time he's posted up until now. I think in the winter I can get a 13.1 or better out of it (if my tires aren't worn out by then) and this is stock, with 1/4 tank of gas or better, stock tire pressures, an amp, amp rack, etc. adding 50 lbs to the car.

I don't think you can begin to argue that the 07 doesn't have a faster time than a pre 07. It would be like argueing an LS1 trans am isn't faster than an LT1, or an LS2 GTO vs an LS1 GTO is a drivers race. The difference is obvious.

 

ahh ^^ some what right but you compare things like an ls1 and an ls2?? that would be like saying yeah you cant compare the 07 Z to pre 07's because the 07 is a 4.0 and the pre 07 is only a 3.5...

the fact is that the 07 may be faster but its making it in a way that the slightly modded pre 07 is.. better breathing or exhaust etc.. it aint a bigger enigine therefore it must be faster (like the ls1 to the ls2)

 

i've restrained myself as much as i could, but i just can't any more, ur an idiot, stock for stock, every 07 is faster than every pre 07 given equal drivers and conditions. no way around that.

what ur comparing is a good driver in good conditions in a pre 07 running the same time (give or take a couple hundredth's) to a crappy driver in crappy conditions in an 07

ur just pissed off that the best u can do is a 2.1 60ft in ur camaro that has a drag race oriented suspension and wider tires

and another thing, i raced a pre 07 (not sure what year exactly) with bolt ons from a roll and i walked him pretty easy. no matter how u slice it, the 07's are faster

Unless everyone runs under the same conditions & at the same track, the 1/4 times recorded on this board don't mean crap.

You can say some <'07's are faster than '07 because of posted times. You fail to take location and driver ability into account. Based on pure performance specifications on the motor, etc., the '07 is faster. Period.

Thats why the 1/4 time thread is BS. It means nothing. Getting a mediocre run at a good track & at sea level doesn't mean you are a good driver & have a fast car. Some dude at elevation with a crappy track prep running 14's can in alot of instances be a better driver. But the 1/4 thread does not take that into account.

 

Thank you for coming out and saying it. Those who think that the '06 and under is just as fast as the '07 are morons.

 

The advantages of the LS2 v LS1 have little to do with the extra displacement. The head/cam combo flows much better in the top end. This made a significan't difference in power. The LS1/LT1 are the same displacement. I was just noting that the HR is a new motor, albiet same base, but a newer, better, more powerful motor.

 

I don't see any information regarding the conditions so you are right it's hard to say if every 07 has been run in crappy conditions vs every fast pre 07 in perfect conditions. You actually posted ahead of a post I was going to make after seen another 07 post 13.30s..but I will let you have your 'idiot' view of me instead... doesn't bother me one single bit.

Errm...where to begin.. I am not a good driver. Period. Not that hard to admit here... honestly I've been saying it all along. Good poke though..almost got a nerve. For what it's worth every 07 350Z is using at least 245 width tires correct?? Some have 265 width I believe? (According to Nissans website).. Since I am on 245/50 R16s and have been since it left the factory that would take away from your assumption a little bit.

As I said having seen yet another 07 actually post a 13.3 with MPH to match I was going to say that I have been wrong but you can have your cake and eat it instead. I was never trying to protect pre 07s I was looking at facts presented by the very people who post on these boards. prior to the recent addition by Peak350, Veetec was the only one who had gone well beyond everyone else... obviously you have posted a good time as well.

HDPD350Z said it best I think... without the ability to compare times in equal conditions all we have is that list... and without that knowledge that list is useless.

 

i was under the impression that all z28's come with 275 section width tires stock, iguess they there is a difference in years. my mistake.

the top three times have 245 width tires, not sure about the rest.

and about the times, if u look at 1 and 4 spots, both are held by veetec, one in an 07 and one in an 04, guess which is faster. same driver taking his car to the track alot to get the absolute best the car is capable of, and guess what, he says he can still get some more out of the 07

and y don't u take a look some the dyno's, the 07 are consistantly dynoing 260-270 on dynojets, the pre 07's dyno'd 240-250 on dynojets (in fact, i've never even seen 250). the only pre 07's that i've seen dyno at 260-270 r the ones with every na bolt on known to the z.

 

Honestly I wish I had 275 width tires... I might actually leave the line at more than 600rpm. We actually had 235 width tires unless tire upgrades were added to get 245 width. The only 275 width F-Bodys I am aware of were all SLP optioned SS/WS6 cars but it was a tire option so maybe it could be ordered without?.... It's all good...I obviously don't know everything about 350Zs and I don't expect any of you to know everything about my car. That's why I am here...to share info and learn ....

I actually havn't seen any Dyno information (tunnel visioned on the 1/4 times I guess)...but thanks for the eye opener... I was thinking it was less than a 15rwhp spread by looking at trap speeds (but once again no DA/weather info is known on those so useless to compare)....

As far as Veetec getting better times... I wish him the best of luck... we will just have to see if it's possible. I do agree that his 07 is obviously faster than his 04 and he is a great driver so it anyone extract times from these cars it's him... Peak350 and yourself obviously have posted good numbers as well so I can't say anyone of you won't better these times... I just have to 'see it' to believe it if you know what I mean.

 

I know I can get better. I wasn't even expecting that run to be my fastest of the night, I took it easier on the launch than I would have (forgot they'd resprayed) and just happened to get a sticky clutch that time. With a new clutch and 265+ tires I'll be in the 12's (assuming its november). Maybe even without the clutch if I can pull a <1.9 60' (possible....but not likely).

 

I've got a new clutch, just need to "break it in" on a decent track. 275's in the rear now, I should have no problems running 12's on street tires. Well *knock on wood* I do race at PIR, I'll probably just run 14.0's.

 

I wish all you guys the best of luck... I will be waiting to do a lid and get larger rears (probably just 275s) until I get what I want from my car... until then I just have to deal with the frustrations of zero traction.

I have 285's in the rear now and they HOOK. Only problem is my rims weigh a ton. New exhast and test pipes going in and hopefully wiht a set of dr's ill hit 12's on the track event

 

What rims did you get? Mine are probably about the same as stock if not lighter.
