lol that guy has 300+ posts in less than two months.... he should keep his mouth shut

I'm a regular on AFM, and the mods keep everyone pretty polite and civil... I think this whole GT vs 350z thing is really cool. Funny though how the GT is always being compared to more expensive cars... I wonder what kind of car the GT would be if it was a $35K car rather than a $25K.

lol i guess... but it would be nice if they bumped the price on the base car $10K, just to give it some better options, there isn't even a button inside to open the trunk for god sakes... the car just feels cheap inside.

That's why the Z varies in price so much. The base models start at like $27k and they don't have hardly anything. No cruise control, no lsd, no leather... Then they go up in price to about $46k for a fully loaded Grand Touring convertible. Somewhere around $40k for a fully loaded Grand Touring coupe. But you aren't getting anymore engine power with any of these trim levels. The base has the same engine power, and even less weight. Which could be one reason why a base model holds our top stock time. But it still takes a great driver to get that time (don't misunderstand me, lol).

Then there's the Nismo, which is actually slower in the 1/4 for w/e reason, but handles better on the track. I don't know what they run for. I'm guessing around $40k though, but they aren't fully loaded with nav and stuff I don't think. At least the one I seen at the dealership wasn't.

There is no evidence that the NISMO is slower. No one has really ran a NISMO with a good driver at the track . The NISMO weighs the same as a Enthusiasts, so it should run the same times.

I think the nismos probably will be slower not due to weight or anything but due to the spring rates. If they are as stiff as one of the 07 nismo owners told me, it might be a little harder to get weight transfer to the rear and in turn a good launch.

Dunno and don't care really. I just know what I've read thus far and what I see here:

cp79shark ----------------------07 Nsmo 6spd 14.017@_97.83mph 2.152 60ft

That's a lot slower than the other Hr's for that low of a 60'. Even with a 1.95 60' that would only have been a time of about 13.6. You could argue DA, but look at the trap speed even. Under 98 is slower than the DE even. I guess time will tell.

Alberto: I don't know who mentioned you to anyone, I didn't see it. I have only been reading and posting in two threads there about GT Mustangs. I never even looked at the thread where that one guy was calling out 350Z's with 500+ HP. That's probably where someone mentioned you though. Look it over and see.

I hope you know theres more to a 1/4 mile then just the first 60'. I can pull a 1.6 60' in my HR motor and run 15.7@88mph. Please dont make generalizations from 1 person's run. I can guaranteee you if I drove the NISMO Z or if some other competent person drives it (VeeTec, or whoever) we can outrun you and your Z.
Im just sayin its really unfair to make a stupid statement like that from 1 person's run. I run at same track that guy ran at. Its probably one of the fastest and best prepped tracks in the Nation (MIR.) There has been many records set there. Im pretty sure the guy just slow shifted IIRC.
I have trapped 68mph at the 1/4 mile before

I am aware of that, but the other run I've seen was still only a 13.7. Have you personally seen a Nismo run a low-mid 13 second run? If not then you are also making assumptions. I seriously doubt that someone who can pull off a 2.15 60' is going to "forget" how to drive after the launch, so don't even go there. Get a timeslip or this is nothing but speculation...

do you really think you can pull a 1.6 in your car with stock power?

Thats not what Gooey meant John ^^^

Nismo Z's are slower due to slightly more downforce that affects trap speed.

That's also an assumption. You have no idea of my driving skill level or how many runs I've made in my life. I've taken my Z to the track ONCE and ran that time. I don't even see you in the stock times, so how well did you do stock? Don't worry, I'll be modding soon enough and Atlanta isn't too far from me so we'll get a chance to prove it soon enough. Maybe we'll even put a wager on it since you can GUARANTEE you will win.

+1

It's a 55 lb difference in force at just 75 mph.

I was never stock because the day I picked up my car I had the Nismo catback put on. If you want to know I was one of the first to run 13.1 with just Nismo catback and DR's.
Im just sayin your claims are dumb. I remember that Nismo owner stating he went easy on the track.

I pulled 1.7 60's before but I have to admit, I dont shift as fast as the other drag racers. Next time ill cut a 1.7-1.8 60' just for you and slow shift my way down the track for a good 16second run @88mph Then we can all generalize all Modded HR's with final drives run slower than stock. Of course the trap speeds never lie.

Apparently my claims aren't too dumb. With the added downforce slowing down the top-end and the stiffer suspension impacting the launch I'd say the Nismo is going to be a few tenths slower on the same track, same DA, with equal drivers.

Everyone knows that suspension is critical to a good launch, right along with tires. Power is useless if it can't be properly transferred. But even if the suspension was equal, the drag is still going to eat it up. I'll bet $100 that a stock Nismo never breaks a 13.400.

I guess we will nver know until someone competent takes one to the track

Im pretty sure its almost on part with the regular though. BTW Im running eibach pro kit. Im pretty sure its a bit stiffer than the Nismo suspension. The car was lowered from day 2 of car ownership. I didnt have much trouble getting decent times even with the new suspension.

Which was what? What was the time? It also had to be on stock tires not DR's, or the 60' is going to be lower regardless of any small suspension differences.

well on DR's if I remember correctly I ran 13.1@106 with a 1.7 60'

On stock tires, eibach springs, Nismo exhaust fastest time I ran was a 13.2@105 with a 1.9 60's

I never posted these times because theres no need since its not a personal best. I ran couple of 13.2-13.3's on stock potenzas all day. I can dig up the old time slips. I have about 60+ time slips from last year alone.

Side note: I went to the track almost every friday's, few saturdays, few sundays. Only missed about 5-6 friday test & tunes the whole season.
