Default Taking car out from winter storage

have been storing my Z for the winter and I'm not sure when is a good time to take it out. Basically I have to predict when the last snowfall will be lol. Do you think taking it out mid-march is too early?

all depends on the weather broski. What you're trying to avoid is salt, not snow. Mid march tends to have occasional snowfalls. End of March should be alright. Sometimes as late as early April. This year probably the end of march.

I took mine out on the second of febuary considering the extreme lack of snow....

That having been said, I've only driven it 2-3 times since, but there's little to no salt on the road and I wash it afterwards essentially with underbody... you can remove it whenever, heavy salt should be avoided, depends on where you live really... I'm in sauga and there's next to no salt on the roads, but even so, I wait until 2-3 days of no snow after a snowfall / the roads are dry.

Salt is a big concern, don't get me wrong, but if you don't drive it everyday and in the worst conditions and wash it regularly... you're not going to have an issue.

My 97 AWD talon DD doesn't have a spec of rust on anything but the exhaust piping... frame is fine, because I've always washed it 1x a week with a light underbody wash as well.

we normally get hit with at least one snow fall at the beginning of April if I'm not mistaken. I'll probably wait till end of April or the very latest beginning of May to pull my car out of storage. I would think after a couple of rainfalls at the end of April should wash all the salt away.

May 1st.

I took mine out last year probably around April 20th, then it snowed again and I ended up getting stuck in a valley, couldn't get home or to work... so I parked it on the side of the road and walked the rest of the way to work. I will now always wait till May 1st.

hah, yeah I winter mine anyway, so I'm just going by when I swap out the winters. There's usually one or two days where I don't drive the car because of the snow though.

Might want to do a little research before you let anyone drill holes into your car... it's not really needed if you wash, and most relatively new cars are completely rust-proofed at the factory regardless... when you open seals etc with the driling you're actually going to allow moisture into areas which have never been exposed before.

Maybe 10 years down the road once your rust warranty is void... many dealers won't honor anti-rust warranties if you use aftermarket companies anyways, look into it honestly.

You don’t always need to drill, you can get in through factory plugs and opening or just spray the surface.

I don’t drive my 350 in the winter and I didn’t want to dirty up the bottom of the car making it hard to work on or at least dirty to work on in the future so I didn’t get it undercoated. But I did buy 2 cans of Rust check “oil” spray and sprayed the fuel lines, brake lines and any nut or bolt that had a bit of corrosion on it under the car.

Its only been a few months in storage... does your winter beater suck that bad that its making you wanting to bring out the summer car now? Just wait till the salt and sand washes away or your gonna have some some nasty chips on your paint. Its already bad in the summer, I cannot imagine what its like in the winter...

maroli - yes, that's about all I would reccomend, I did the same on my car before putting it into storage.

BluRed... First off, the attitude is not necessary. I was paying 135$ a month for a private storage locker that seemed essentially wasted as I now have 2 parking spots available in my driveway... so I took the Z out, drove it a few times... when it's parked it's covered (I actually have a new cover on the way from the states made out of NOAH custom cut for the nismo). It seems just as logical to have it sit in my driveway covered and if the weather permits, driven..

That's all I said. It's not my daily driver even in warmer weather anymore... and I can assure you I pride myself in maintaining my car as meticulously as possible, budget permitting haha.

Not that it's any of your business, but unless you're turbocharged my 'winter beater' probably puts more down to the ground than your Z... All the more power to you however if you choose to keep yours in storage longer, I simply expressed my personal opinion and my experiance in regard to corrosion experianced.

I have never found the sand to be an issue *in mississauga*, nor as previously stated have i found large salt peices littered as they are more so in toronto and north along the 404/400... I don't take the car out of mississauga in general, nor would I in the winter / drive on roads I don't know.

I have never found an astronomical difference regardless winter vs summer driving in respect to chipping. Perhaps where you live it's different, again, just expressing my personal opinion.

I'd just like to state that people should avoid judging other people on the basis of when they drive their car, winter or otherwise. We're not driving 6 figure exotics. In my case, I don't want to get a beater because I LOVE driving my car, winter or otherwise. So yeah, if mistanismo want to drive his Z at some point during the winter, who cares why. I mean, it IS his car.

^ I see a bunch of 911's even saw gt2 & gt3 on the roads in downtown, alot of sl's, slk's, m3 etc really sad to see rich folks take out expensive rides in the winter time, but i guess its easy for them because they can buy new ones in a heart beat
