I've done my searches, but came up empty handed. I have this stupid honking sound coming from my car around 4,000 rpms and I can't find the source nor a solution!! Any ideas?

No really, there's a couple threads with other people hearing a similar noise, but no one has come to a reason why. I only started noticing it after I installed the popcharger and pulley. I doubt the pulley has anything to do with it, so I'm figuring it's probably the intake. Could there be resonance in the intake tube?

 

I remember something like this happening to some BMWs that had a certain intake so thats a possibility...the owners said it was like a "burp"

 

hey I have something like this. but its more like a bearings spinning really fast. Here's a good example riding on a bike. Imagine your peddeling (sp) and then you coast, the noise that makes. Well mine does a faint impression of that around 4k. That's normal from what ive heard. When my sisters eclipse had the clutch replaced it made this sound. I have 26K miles.

 

Do not get to excited about this noise...If it is what I think it is you have taken off the intake silencer right? This is just the air being sucked into the intake....it was not as pronounced before because of the silencer.....This would be my best guess as you have decribed no loss in performance..

 

My 2004 G35 will do this sometimes, I first tought I was eharing things. It didn't do it before the Crawaford plenum and CATs. So I'm still not sure were it comes from. I am expecting the Plenum.
I am removeing the Plenum in a few weeks and wil dtermine if the "honk" goes with it.

 

mine does it alot... its just the air comming into your intake at a certain frequency causing the air to wistle. sounds like a mini honk though. nothing bad.
