i always do the way you said to shift the gear, but unfortunately, the problem still exists - the gears seems like not willing to be engaged.
(today, when i just drove the car to school, i even figured that the clutch had some noticable sound....****! im almost freaking out!!!

I have 3400 miles on my car now and the tranny is getting really smooth (relatively speaking). Give it time, it's most likely the tranny breaking in. If it doesn't get better after a few miles, then take in to get looked at.
hopefully, everything will go like what you say...! (cross my fingers~~
yea the Z does have a rough tranny to begin with so if your used to smooter cars you may just be imagining a problem. I know mine almost rocks your teeth loose when i shift but that is the upgraded clutch/flywheel... but it was rough before too... good luck
my Z has 4000+ miles and the 1st-2nd shift is tough. i really have to pause a moment before letting the clutch out when in 2nd. its like it takes the tranny an extra .02 sec to sync. i guess i am just trying to shift too fast.
my z has about 8000 miles on it. i have notices this shifting issue. however, when i shift with a little more force it actually goes away...? i know its wierd, but when i try to baby it it seems to get that little grind more often.
I'm going to try some different fluid soon (probably the proper redline fluid, either MT90 or Shockproof light), if that doesn't fix it i'm going back to the dealer.

Mine does this too, but strangely it's more on slow shift when I let the RPM's drop! Fast shifting is fine...
My car is an 05 with 5k miles, and it's always done this. Sometimes it's worse, sometimes it shifts fine.
Also, when coming to a stop and putting it in first, does it whine if you're still rolling? Another one, when I'm next to a wall or drivethrough and I push in the clutch from I hear a slap noise. Last one, clutch out in neutral sounds like **** in my garage. Ok, one more, when I cut the car off it's noisy as well (motor shake or tranny, I can't tell).
Anyone else share these cool Z traits?

MIne does the same thing and was one of my biggest compliants. I think its a combinations of things from the rough tranny, torque and weight of the car. I have seen that I have smoother shifts when having to keep my rpms above 3300 and putting in with a little force and little more gas to catch it. That has worked for me but i still ocaasioanly get the imperfect 1st -2nd when first strating her up.

1) clutch rattle - normal (due to dual-plate design)
2) slapping sound pressing down the clutch at low speeds - normal (drivetrain is still torqued when moving, depressing clutch releases the torque and there's a slapping feeling/sound)
3) crunch into 2nd gear - normal (no idea... every Z i've driven has this... I guess it's just a characteristic of our tranny's)
4) whining when downshifting into 1st, but car is still moving - normal (synchros needs to work over time when moving into first since the gearing is so damned tall... at least that's my opinion)
Every car has some tranny characteristic that you just have to live with. The S2000 for example has an awesome 6MT, but it has its share of problems too (ocassional grind into 2nd, occasionally can't shift into 1st, loud synchros, BUZZING clutch plate <- still not fixed in '05s... duh)
It is a normal problem with '03 6MT models as well, most of the time it was actually shifting from 2nd to 3rd with aggressive driving, it would really begin to grind eventually (even though it went into gear) because the synchros were going out. Many MANY '03 6MT's have had their tranny replaced atleast once. I had mine replaced not long ago, at about 23k miles. The new tranny (same as what they put in the '05) is a bit more notchy and I agree.... it shifts way smoother at high RPM's like when racing or driving aggressively. Low RPM driving, especially in the morning when the car hasn't warmed up yet, is really notchy and rough usually. Cold weather outside only seems to amplify it. I found it helpful to just go to the drag strip and rip through the gears a few times
hehe, no kidding 1-4 gears are smooth as silk now, just needed that factory dust knocked off. 5th and 6th are still hard to shift kinda, but I don't get to slam those 2 gears at the drag strip :\

One thing i bet it is, Are you finding this in the morning or before your car is warmed up completely I will notice substantially that if the car isnt warmed up the gears are a little stiff and have a very rough almost grinding feel bu they are not grinding just make sure that your not driving off with your car not warm yet and shifting quick into gear. If this isnt it i apologize for going off here but if this makes sense to you than take my suggestion plus you have the updated tranny so you should be all good they fixed the grinding from the 03's.
